I nod against his chest, feeling like I’d probably agree to anything he asked of me right about now. While I’ve had countless orgasms since New Year’s Eve, this one… hit different. Plus, Roman has always been the best aftercare giver, but right now, it’s almost like hugging him for the first time after nearly a year away from him. Before, even when I’d be wrapped in his arms, my body still humming from the pleasure he gave me, there was still this… internal distance I kept between us. But now, I think I finally feel secure enough to close that gap, or at least shorten it, knowing the truth of what really happened.

My eyelids grow heavy as I breathe in the scent of my husband—Number 6 soap, faded woodsy cologne, and Old Spice deodorant mixed with something completely him. He rubs my back, and he must still be reading, because he sits there for a long moment, not clicking anything on the keyboard to either move on to something else or turn it off completely.

I’m lulled into a state of relaxation I haven’t felt in far too long. At one point, I’m vaguely aware of his hand moving away from my back for just a second before it returns, and then a quiet click sounds from somewhere behind us.

Did he toss something behind the couch? No, there’s carpet back there. It wouldn’t have made a clicking sound, more a light thud.

Who knows.

I don’t care.

At this very moment in time, I haven’t a care in the entire world. Even the possibility of fulfilling my husband’s fantasy doesn’t seem terrifying or repulsive, not when he’s turned me into a kitten who’s curled up and purring in her master’s lap while he strokes and pets her into a stupor. It’s not until the exact millisecond before I lose consciousness that it occurs to me the clicking noise I heard sounded a lot like our front door when it closes, but then everything goes a blurry gray.

CHAPTER EIGHT

ROMAN

After tucking Savannah’s weighted blanket around her and hearing her sigh of contentment in her sleep, I step out into the hallway and close our bedroom door silently behind me. Yes, we live alone, but she has to have complete darkness in order to sleep well, and she needs the rest after the highly emotional day we had.

Emotions that aren’t quite finished with me yet because of what I now have to face.

I step out on my porch and press the button to engage the electronic lock on the front door, spinning around to descend the steps. My hands find their way into the pockets of my pajama pants as I turn left and walk across the grass. I’m barefoot, but it hasn’t been dark long, so there’s no dew beneath my soles to make the blades stick.

My best friend sits in one of the two brown rattan chairs bookending a matching bistro table on his front porch. He’s bent forward, elbows to knees, his hands clasped in front of him with a white-knuckled grip.

So he heard everything then.

I climb the four steps, not saying a word, and then lower myself into the other chair, my hands still in my pockets as I stare straight ahead into nothingness.

My wife isn’t the only one I kept my dark desire hidden from. I hadn’t spoken a word of it to Abe either, knowing damn well this would be his reaction. And while he’s the one person I can talk to about literally anything, including if it’s about Savannah, this is different.

Abe knows the D/s dynamic in my marriage. He’s also a member of Club Alias, but he’s much more of an exhibitionist than Savannah. I say her instead of us, because if it were up to me, I’d do everything to her in the center of a spotlighted stage. But we compromised to make each other happy and agreed only to showcase foreplay scenes, no actual intercourse.

Abe understands everything that goes into leading this lifestyle, and up until minutes ago, he believed every aspect of every kink I had was 100 percent monogamous.

It doesn’t take long before his voice rumbles across the table between us. “What the fuck, man?” He asks it quietly, but the scolding in his tone is clear as day. “What the hell did I just hear? And on top of that, why the fuck wouldn’t you just get her out of there so I could leave without her noticing I walked in on y’all?” After a beat, his voice comes out louder with his next question. “What did I walk in on?”

I saw Abe the very second he came through our front door, as I faced in that direction while Savannah’s back was to it. Her eyes were closed as she detailed a pretty picture of my fantasy for me, so lost in thought that she hadn’t heard him enter. The look I gave him over her shoulder was enough to silence his usual greeting, and he backed away, reaching for the doorknob. I had just enough time to shake my head at him before Savannah’s words abruptly stopped and I registered where she left off.
