There was so much she wanted to say, but instead, she spun on her heel and headed toward Petal, who waited in the car.

Kim was there, between the clubhouse and the car. Rosalie had no choice but to stop as the other woman held out her hands, but she didn’t take them.

“You know, you don’t have to leave. I can help you get settled in with Colt.”

“I’m not living with him,” Rosalie said.

Kim frowned. “But—”

“I’ve got to go. I’ve got to get ready for work,” Rosalie said. “Don’t worry. I know what’s expected of me, and I’ll be here.”

She didn’t touch Kim and stepped around the other woman, heading toward the passenger side of Petal’s car.

“Are you sure you want to go to work?” Petal asked. “You’re, er, walking a little funny.”

“It’s fine.”

The sex last night had been painful and she had a reminder with every step she took that it hadn’t been great.

Chapter Eight

Three Months Later

Colt glanced down at the time and winced. He needed to leave the Evil Fuckers MC clubhouse and get home. Rosalie would be waiting for him.

Three months. Three months of nearly every Friday, unless it was her time of the month, when he got a nice little text to tell him she wouldn’t be there. He’d already marked out her schedule on his calendar and knew when one was coming.

He took a sip of his beer and looked toward his old man and Daemon. His father wanted to do a practice run. They didn’t have the dope to move yet, but in two weeks’ time, they would be attempting to do this run with product. Warden didn’t trust Daemon and the truth was, neither did he. Daemon acted the part of a loyal partner but he also had a reputation of satisfying his own needs. There was an agenda here, but what, he didn’t know.

“It’s not ideal you looking like you’re disgusted,” Ox said, coming to stand with him.

Averting his gaze, he turned to the other brother. “Are you okay with this?”

“Free beer is a perk.”

“You’re not after the free pussy?” Colt asked.

“I’ll have pussy when we get home, but there’s no chance of me sticking my dick here, not happening.” Ox wrinkled his nose.

The women were beautiful and willing. Most of them were dressed in their underwear, rubbing up against the Satan’s Death Riders MC, but none of the brothers were biting.

They were not here to taste the pussy and he didn’t like what he saw. The women had clearly been told to welcome them with open arms. Colt knew the game Daemon was playing, but neither he nor the other brothers were interested.

“It doesn’t seem wedded bliss is helping the clubs, does it?” Ox asked.

Colt knew it wouldn’t work.

He finished the one and only beer he’d allowed himself to have, out of courtesy to the club. Putting the empty bottle on the main bar, he saw a large man approach. He didn’t know who he was, but he wore an Evil Fuckers MC patch.

“Bug,” he said, holding out his hand.

Colt wasn’t exactly sure what to do but he glanced over toward his father and saw him in conversation with Daemon.

“Colt,” he said.

“I know who you are. I wanted to meet the man who is now married into the family.”

He frowned, there was a familiarity to him. Bug looked like Daemon.

“You’re the son?”

“Rosalie’s half brother, not that she remembers me.”

Ox stayed where he was.

“Remembers you? Rosalie has nothing to do with the club.” Unless she’d been lying.

“I know,” Bug said. “That’s what she knows.”

Colt stared at the large man. Was he doing this on purpose, being vague while also appearing to drop club secrets, which didn’t sound like the intelligent thing to do?

“And what does Rosalie know exactly?” Colt asked.

Bug smirked. “Just what she needs to know. Are you treating her good?”

He didn’t answer.

“Okay, I get it, you’re not going to answer that.”

“You expect me to believe you’re concerned? I didn’t see you at the wedding.”

“I wasn’t invited,” Bug said. “The old man has never demanded Rosalie return to the club, not since he gave her back to Gabrielle. I’ve not been allowed any contact with her since she was a kid, a baby.”

“Why are you telling me this?”

Bug took a deep breath. “Look, I know you don’t trust us. You drink one beer, keep an eye, you know the women have been told to loosen you up. We both know a wedding hasn’t smoothed matters, but Rosalie is my sister and she doesn’t remember me, but I made a promise to her that I would protect her. I failed, but I can fix this. She’s a good woman. She loves her mom, she works hard, and she tries, fuck, does she try. So please, treat her right.”

Bug nodded at him then at Ox, before stepping away.
