“Oh, fuck,” I mumbled. It made him chuckle.

He dipped in again, this time deeper as he leaned over me and took my mouth with his. Smooth, hard strokes of his tongue matched the motion of his fingers. Pops of the trumpets played in my ears as I squeezed my legs tight around Damien’s hand.

“Yes,” I whimpered. “Oh, Damien.”

He chuckled again, and I could feel his body move around as he did. “Yes?” he said teasingly.

I shuddered as I felt myself starting to come. “Oh, Damien. Yes.” I laid my head on his chest and trembled through the orgasm. He pressed my clit once more, hard and direct, forcing me to gasp. I immediately opened my eyes to see if anyone noticed us. The fear of the moment flooded me as Damien kept his hand right there on my center.

“Don’t worry,” he said with a laugh. His fingers traced me over, stimulating me one last time. “No one saw us.”

“I drew in a breath, then I finally let go of his pants. My hand felt stiff and sore just from grabbing on tight.

“Next time,” he said as he withdrew his hand from between my legs. He grabbed a napkin and wiped his hand off before taking hold of mine. “Feel free to hold onto this instead,” he whispered in my ear as he placed my hand on his cock. Fuck if it wasn’t bigger than I expected! That, however, wasn’t the main thing on my mind.

“Next time?” I asked as I turned to see his eyes.

“Oh yes,” he said grinning. “I’m not letting you go that easily.”

PARVATI

On the day of the wedding, I helped my mother get ready in the dressing room at the venue. She looked so beautiful with her hair done in curls and her makeup fresh and sweet.

“Parvati, do you have those pearls?”

My mom was frantically looking around on all the countertops and near the vanity.

“Yes, of course. They’re in my bag.” I rushed over and pulled the necklace box out of my bag, then I handed it to my mom in the middle of the room. She opened the box and immediately teared up. I could understand. They were a gift from my dad years ago.

My mom wiped her tears and started to wave at her face.

“I’m so sorry.”

“You don’t have to be,” I said to her. I rubbed her back as she turned away from me, clearly dropping more tears. “I know you miss him a lot. We both do.”

She turned and looked at me, and I noticed the redness in her eyes and on her cheeks. “I hope you aren’t upset with me for moving on so soon.” I wasn’t exactly sure what to say to that. I had the right to my own opinions, but she also had the right to love whomever she wanted. “I, um…”

“You know I’ll always love your father,” she said to me. She came and put her hands on my shoulders and gave me a squeeze. “It’s hard to explain how love works, but sometimes it surprises us. Well,” she lifted her brow, “it surprises us a lot, really.”

I drew a smile at her words. Sure, love was surprising. It sure surprised my friend Jourdanne when she fell for two men at once. I guess it wasn’t crazy to think my mom could love again.

“You’re right. Besides, Dad would be happy to see you moving on and enjoying your life.”

She gave me a quick, tight hug, then she turned and went to the vanity to check her makeup.

“Oh, look at my mascara,” she said with a laugh. Letting out a deep breath of air, she shrugged her shoulders and shook out her arms.

I went over to her and adjusted some of her curls as she cleaned up her makeup in the mirror. “I think Dad would be happy so long as you are happy. He wouldn’t want you to spend the rest of your life alone if you truly did find love with someone else. And maybe you’re right. Maybe it is possible to love more than one person with all your heart.”

“You always know exactly what to say,” my mom said as she turned around and faced me. She took a deep breath and then gave me a smile. “Then I guess it’s time.”

“I’ll go let them know.”

My mom called to me just before I opened the door. “Parvati, have you met your new stepbrothers yet?”

I shook my head. “No, but I’m sure I’ll bump into them at some point.”

My mom came over to me with a kind and gentle look in her eyes. “I know this isn’t easy for you either. Taking on a new father—”

“Stepfather.”

“Right. Stepfather. But also three new stepbrothers.”

I had to do everything I could to keep myself from rolling my eyes. Not only did Danforth have all the wealth in town, but he also had three incredibly wealthy sons who liked to flaunt their material possessions in the faces of anyone who was stupid enough to take a look. I was certain not one of them had a quality relationship with anyone.
