At first he thought O’Brian wasn’t going to respond and that their cover would be shot all to hell. Come on, Sean, he thought frantically. Play along! You’ve got to play along ... And then his worries were pushed out of his head as his partner parted his lips and let Valenti’s seeking tongue inside.

There was a shock of what could only be described as rightness, a feeling of belonging and possession so strong, he felt it down to his soul as he fed on those ripe red lips he’d been longing for so desperately, as he tasted O’Brian’s hot mouth. Nearly groaning, Valenti bent to his task, pulling his partner more fully into his arms and pressing the lithe, firm body as close to his own as he could get it. He could feel O’Brian’s arms winding around his waist as Valenti kissed him with all the pent-up passion that had been tormenting him all night.

There was nothing soft about it. It was a punishing kiss, a ravishing of his partner’s mouth, meant to prove a point. What that point was, Valenti completely forgot the moment he gained entrance to O’Brian’s sweet, chocolate-flavored mouth and the other man started kissing him back.

He heard a muffled groan from O’Brian, and then his partner was giving as good as he was getting, pressing against Valenti eagerly, slipping his own tongue inside Valenti’s mouth to taste and explore in turn. Valenti became aware that his cock was rock hard and threatening to burst out of the conservative black suit pants, and his partner was in the same state as the kiss seemed to go on and on, rough and luscious and hot, until he though he would come on the spot just from tasting O’Brian’s mouth.

They broke apart at last to come up for air, and Valenti finally remembered the reason he had been kissing his partner in the first place when he saw Conrad watching them dispassionately with those gray predator’s eyes.

“That convince you?” Valenti asked, panting a little. His lips felt swollen and hot from the frenzied kiss, and his cock was throbbing desperately in his pants. He didn’t dare look to see if O’Brian was in a similar state of discomfort.

“For now,” Conrad replied. “But I will be keeping my eye on you, gentlemen. Try not to abuse my hospitality.” Turning, he tossed over his shoulder, “Enjoy your stay at the RamJack. I will be seeing you later.”

They were quiet until they got back to the room, and then, when the door was firmly shut and locked, Valenti turned to his partner and exploded.

“What the hell was that?” he demanded, advancing on the hapless O’Brian, who had the nerve to look surprised and uncomprehending.

“What was what?” O’Brian protested, putting up his hands in a “don’t shoot” gesture to ward off his angry partner.

“That ... that story you told back there!” Valenti nearly yelled, poking a finger into the solid chest before him.

“That, Nicky, was me keeping you from blowing our cover.” O’Brian’s eyes glinted dangerously as he began to get angry in turn. He grabbed Valenti’s finger in one fist, pushing it away from his chest. “I had to say something quick to keep ’em from figuring out that we’re not who we say we are.”

“Well, did you have to go into such ... detail?” Valenti demanded, still angry, but beginning to cool off a little now. His body was still throbbing from the effect of having O’Brian all over his lap and the passionate kiss they had just shared. He knew that his partner hadn’t meant to torment him. O’Brian was just going undercover with the same single-minded devotion he brought to all their police work. It wasn’t his fault that this particular assignment was driving Valenti over the edge.

“What was I gonna say?” O’Brian asked fiercely. His eyes were a hard green and narrowed in irritation. “I came up with the best thing I could; sorry it didn’t meet your standards. Maybe next time I should leave you flappin’ in the wind, but I can’t do that, Valenti, because we’re partners. We’re s’posed to be watching out for each other, and that’s all I was tryin’ to do -- honest.” He turned away and made as if to head into the bathroom to get some privacy, but Valenti caught his arm and pulled him back.

“No, wait, Sean. I ... I’m sorry. I had no right to blow up at you that way. It’s just that this whole situation is still freaking me out. And that story you told, well, it was so ... realistic. So plausible ...” His voice trailed off. How could he say that O’Brian had described exactly the kind of scenario he himself had been fantasizing about for the last month? He couldn’t -- never in a million years could he admit that.
