Breck cleared his throat. “So, what’d you do? You know, to drive him crazy?”

Kai gave another shrug. “Made it look like Sean was giving me head.”

Breck stiffened. In what universe was one able to fake that?

If it involved pulling out one’s dick, he was done with this conversation. “How?” he rasped.

“Easy. Just turned my back to the glass and unzipped my fly—”

Breck gripped his beer tighter.

“—then shoved my fingers into Sean’s mouth and told him to suck.”

Breck stilled… Then choked on a laugh. “Oh, my God, are you serious? And it worked?”

Kai smiled. “Next thing I knew, Max was crashing through the door.”

Breck shook his head, but then sobered and met Kai’s eyes. “And if he hadn’t? What would you have done then?”

Kai looked away. “I guess I would’ve finished the session.”

“Which entailed what? You fucking Sean?”

“No. Not on the first meeting. And there won’t be a second, so...”

Breck eyed him, surprised. “There won’t?”

Kai chuckled. “No.”

“Why not?”

“Well, for one, Sean isn’t really on the market. He’s still Max’s. And Max is still his.”

Breck frowned. “But then why would Max—”

“Honestly, I don’t know the specifics. But what I do know for sure is that they’re not ready to part ways. They’ve got a lot to work out. I’ve never seen two human beings more emotionally tied.”

Breck thought about that, then looked at him. “Did it piss you off? When you figured that out? I mean, they didn’t just drag you into their little lover’s quarrel. They wasted your time. Promised you a sub and then reneged.”

Kai shrugged again. “I’m not pressed.”

For some reason, that made Breck happy. “You’re not irritated at all?”

“Nope.” Kai sipped his beer. “I’m kinda glad.”

Breck’s heart skipped. “Glad?”

Another shrug. “I was doing it as a favor.”

“Ah.” That felt incredibly good to know. “So, you hadn’t actually been looking for a sub.”

Kai eyed him. “Would it have been wrong if I had?”

Breck blinked at the unexpected question. “No, I just—”

“Do I not have just as much right as anyone else to find a partner who fits me?”

Breck frowned. “I didn’t—”

“Or should I stay alone forever.”

Breck clenched his jaw. “Why’re you asking me this? Do whatever the fuck you want.”

Kai’s lashes hooded imperceptibly, his gaze dipping to Breck’s mouth. “I will. Although, it’s not like I have other prospects making themselves known to me at the moment.”

That was directed toward Breck. He was one hundred percent positive. Kai was calling him out on his behavior toward him. And in fairness, Kai was right. Breck had refused to give him any incentive. Any encouragement whatsoever to pursue him. Instead, he just kept throwing the guy shade, even though they both knew Breck was attracted to him.

Clearing his throat, he focused on getting the conversation back on track. “So, what’s the other reason there won’t be a second session?”

Kai glanced away. Gave another shrug. “Because we’re not a good match. I could tell after just a few minutes of working with him. I mean, he’s a great kid and all, but I just wasn’t feeling it. Honestly, he’s not even remotely my type.”

Breck regarded him, curiosity piqued. “Oh? And what exactly is your type?”

“Hmm… Taller… Darker…” Kai’s gaze dipped to Breck’s body. The tone of his voice went noticeably deeper. “With a bit more muscle.”

Breck’s heart thumped. He fit that bill perfectly.

Kai met his eyes. “So, what’s your type?”

Oh. Breck rubbed his nape. Looked around. “Um. I don’t really have one.”

“Everyone has a type.”

Yeah, but Breck didn’t want to say. Besides, he was pretty sure ‘Kai’ didn’t qualify as a ‘type.’ “Fine. Um… Petite and busty.”

Kai stared at him, then barked out a laugh.

“What,” Breck grated, scowling. “That’s my type. You wanted to know.”

“You know what I wanted to know, Breck. Don’t play stupid.”

Breck clenched his jaw. “I’m not—”

“What’s your type of man.”

He fidgeted.

Kai raised a brow. “You told me you were bi.”

“Yeah… I… am.”

“So? What’s your type?”

Ugh. Breck shrugged his shoulders stiffly. “Big? Strong? Athletic? I don’t really know… Never gave it much thought.”

Kai studied him curiously. “You don’t really know… Just how often do you swing?”

“Not often.”

“I see.”

Breck tensed. “No, you don’t. You don’t see shit.”

Kai smiled a little. “I see enough. But no need to get defensive, Breck. I imagine you run that position enough as it is.”

Breck glowered. “And what’s that supposed to mean?”

“You play basketball, don’t you?”

Breck rolled his eyes. “Uh huh. Whatever.”

Kai grinned, but let the subject go. “You’re doing really well, I hear. Your team. You made the cut.”

Breck cocked a brow. Kai never seemed interested in college basketball before. Did he follow it during March Madness or something? He sat up straighter. “We’re holding our own.”

Kai’s eyes glinted with teasing. “Says the mighty king.”

Breck frowned. “My position’s important.” Why’d he suddenly feel the need to justify himself?

“I’m sure it is.”

Did Kai really believe that?
