“Well fuck me,” Flick murmurs. “I never would have guessed you’d do it this good, girl.”

“I told you I can put on a show,” Waverly says, her voice back to normal now. “You’d be surprised what I can do. I said I was all in, and I meant it. I mean look at me! Whatever are these shorts? I have a bum cheek hanging out.”

“Nothin’ wrong with that darlin’.” Cohen grins. “It catches the eye.”

She stares at him, then flips her hair over her shoulder. “Well, as long as it catches the right eye, I don’t care.”

“No doubt it will.”

She looks over to Mykel, who is staring at her, his face expressionless. “What about you, silent soldier, have I passed your test?”

He shakes his head. “No. I don’t think you’ll be able to stop that mouth from runnin’ when somethin’ doesn’t go right.”

“Argh.” She shakes her head and looks back to Flick. “Are all bikers this arrogant, or did this one just get dropped on his head?”

Flick laughs, I giggle, and Mykel glares at her.

“Pretty sure it means he likes you.” Kendric chuckles.

“Fuck up, Kendric,” Mykel growls.

“Well, you can assure him the feeling isn’t mutual,” Waverly mutters. “In fact, if you’d so kindly tell him to shove his opinion up—”

“Okay,” Flick says, cutting her off. “We’re not going to have an all-out war right about now. We got shit to talk about. Like the fact that your sister told us where Bennett is goin’ to be tonight and just how you’re goin’ to start this.”

Waverly nods, and looks to him. “I’m ready.”

“I fuckin’ hope so.”

God.

So do I.

So. Do. I.

“You clear on what you’re goin’ to do here?” I ask Waverly, as she stares down at her watch for the fifth time, clearly a little nervous even though she won’t admit it.

“Yes, I’m going to be near his car when he gets out of his meeting. I’m going to accidentally trip and then start crying, apologizing over and over when he tries to help me, making up some bullshit about my boyfriend dumping me and having no family. That’s going to tug on his heartstrings and hopefully make him think I’m a good candidate.”

“Sounds about right,” I nod. “If you feel you’re in danger, at any time, you leave. We clear on that?”

She nods.

“Also, if he asks you to get into his car, or come to his house, you’re goin’ to say what?”

“No fucking way,” she grins. “I’m not stupid, boss.”

“I know you’re not, but we gotta make sure this goes well. Zariah is goin’ to have eyes on you at all times, and she’s goin’ to be reporting back to us. You ready?”

“I’m ready,” she says, and then gets out of the car.

We’re sitting a few blocks down from where the meeting is taking place. We couldn’t be sure we weren’t being followed, so we had to make quite a few fucking swaps just to get here. A bunch of us left the club at the same time, six different trucks. I’m not in mine, but instead Kendric’s. We all swapped to ensure if someone was watching, they can only follow one. At least, that’s the fucking hope.

I kept eyes on the road the entire time I was driving and didn’t see anyone behind me, so I’m fairly certain we’re safe.

“Okay,” Waverly says, glancing back in before she shuts the door. “Wish me luck.”

“Good luck.”

She disappears down the street and I pull out my phone and message Zariah.

A – You got eyes on her?

Z – Yep.

A – Keep me updated.

I sit and wait for what seems like fucking hours, but is more like one. Finally, my phone rings, and I see Zariah’s name flashing across the screen.

“Fill me in,” I tell her.

“She’s got him hook line and sinker. I’m sitting at a bar, just a little ways away. I can see them clearly. She tripped over, he helped her, and then she started crying and waving her arms around. It was beautiful, really. Then she got talking to him, and they’re still going. I think she’s goin’ to make him putty in her hands.”

Thank fuck.

“Okay, keep eyes on her and make sure she doesn’t get into any trouble. I’ll be waitin’ here for her when she’s done.”

“Copy.”

She hangs up ,and I keep waiting, thankful this is going to fucking plan. So far, at least. Couldn’t handle it if things started going south right about now. This is our last and only hope, and we need it to go right. Fuck do we need it to go right.

This is weighing down on my club, weighing down on me and there seems to be no fucking end in sight.

I exhale and stare over just as the truck door opens and Waverly jumps in. She turns to me, smiles, and swipes the fake tears from her eyes before saying, “Well, that went well.”
