Everything about her is captivating and drawing me in. Her silky straight brown hair, her long luscious lips, her mesmerizing dark brown eyes—she’s stunning. Absolutely fucking stunning.

Even with an enraged bear barreling down on us, I can still barely move. It’s painful to tear my eyes away from her.

The bear lunges at us. I grab my girl and pull her out of the way as the beast flies by, its long sharp claws barely missing my ribs.

“Stop!” she screams as I raise my sword to take him out. “Please! Don’t hurt him! He has a son!”

The sound of terror in her voice and the look of desperation in her eyes makes me hesitate.

This is my mate’s brother. If I kill him in front of her, she’ll never forgive me. Mate or not, she’ll hate me forever for doing this to her family. For taking her nephew’s father away from him. I’ll never be able to hold her. I’ll never be able to kiss those soft lips.

“Câlisse,” I grunt in frustration as I grab her wrist and pull her down the hall away from the bear.

The beast gets distracted by a papier mache demon and easily tears it to pieces as we hurry around the corner.

“Are you with the AFA?” my girl asks with her hands shaking. Her skin is all flushed as she looks around in panic.

I just want to pick her up and get her out of here. I want to bring her to safety. I want to bring her to a nice hotel on a beach somewhere safe and take all of her worries away. I could see us walking along the shore with drinks in our hands as the sun sets over our heads. I’d be wearing my best outfit. She’d be wearing a gorgeous flowing dress. I’d get down on one knee under a swaying palm tree and ask her to marry me.

“Are you an AFA agent?” she screams into my face.

“Yes!” I say, jerking back to the present.

“You can’t kill him! He’s a good man!”

I look around the corner and the bear spots me. He roars in fury as he begins to rush over with his snarling teeth and deadly claws.

“It’s either him or us, chérie,” I tell her. “He’s not your brother anymore. Once a feral bear, always a feral bear.”

She grabs my arm and looks at me with those big brown pleading eyes. “Please.”

My stomach drops. How can I say no to her?

I can’t. I know in this instant that I’ll always be under this pretty lady’s little thumb.

“I won’t kill him,” I promise as I pull her behind me. “But I have to knock him out.”

Somehow. How the fuck am I supposed to do that?

“You wait outside.”

She squeezes my arm as she holds my gaze. “Don’t hurt him.”

I nod and then lightly push her toward the exit. “Go. Now.”

She hurries away as the bear comes crashing over, slamming into the flimsy walls and making them sway.

“I fucking hate bears,” I mutter as I step into his path. All of the walls in here are made of plywood except for the outer walls. They’re all made from thick cinderblocks. I see an exposed patch of the wall behind me.

“Salut, monsieur brother-in-law,” I shout with a wave of my arms.

The bear lowers his head, snarls, and then charges right at me.

“I guess we’re family,” I say as I wait until the last second to leap forward and slide under his body. He slams his head so hard into the cinderblock wall that the entire building shakes. I slide out behind the beast as dust tumbles down from the ceiling.

He staggers and stumbles around with a confused whimper.

“My name is Remy Beaufort,” I say as I get to my feet. “And I will love your sister with every beat of my lovestruck heart.”

The bear sways on his big paws as his eyes open and close. “That’s it, mon ami. Let him take over.”

His huge furry shoulders begin to tremble. His body shakes violently and then with a loud tear, a naked man bursts out of him.

He takes one look at me and then sprints toward the exit. I sheath my sword and sprint after him.

“Colin!” my beautiful girl shouts as he runs by her. He stops and looks from her to me in a panic. I calmly walk outside with my hands up.

“I’m not going to hurt you.”

“Where’s Nathan?” the man asks.

“He’s hiding behind the stuffed animals in the throwing game beside the orange rollercoaster,” my mate answers. “I’ll be right there.”

He takes off running through the amusement park on bare feet.

“Thank you,” she says when we’re finally alone. “He wasn’t trying to hurt anyone.”

My inner wolf is purring in happiness now that she’s here. My body is so tingly. I have goosebumps everywhere.

The obsession takes over as I stare at her perfect face. I don’t know what to say. I don’t know what to do.
