“I feel the same way,” I whispered as my eyes grew misty. “I think about you all day and dream about you all night. I'm happiest when you're by my side. I need you, Daddy.”
He gave me another kiss, and kept his head lowered to look deep into my eyes when he added, “Everything that happened today made me realize how short and unpredictable life is. I want to hold onto everything dear, and experience every good thing to the fullest. I want you by my side every possible moment. The choice is up to you; please don't feel pressured in any way, but I would very much like for you to move into my house with me. I want it to be ours.”
I lifted a shaking hand to place it on his scruffy cheek. “Really? You really mean it?” I wanted to make sure this wasn't a rash decision after a traumatic event.
“I do. I've been dreaming about it for weeks, but I didn't want to rush you. But I don't want to wait. I want to sleep next to you every night and wake up to you in the mornings. I want to see your beautiful face when I get home from work. I want to cook dinner for you and snuggle you on the couch every evening. I want to watch you play, watch movies together, and make love to you. I just want you, Henley; every day, every moment, I want you.”
“Oh yes, Daddy,” I answered, and a huge grin lit up his face, making his eyes sparkle. “Yes, yes, yes!” It was everything I had been dreaming of as well. I wrapped my arms around his neck and squeezed way too tightly, but Daddy didn't mind. He just chuckled and buried his face into the crook of my throat. He nibbled my skin and tickled me with his beard until I laughed and let him loose.
“When can I move in?” I asked, hoping his answer was ‘immediately’. I didn't want to wait another second.
“We'll move all of your stuff this weekend,” he promised. I couldn't deny my silly disappointment until he finished, “Tonight, I just need to relax with you. I want to get you in your cute little diaper and shorts and watch you color, or race your cars, or whatever you feel like.”
I instantly understood. He wasn't ready for the stress of packing or moving yet. He needed to just relax and settle. Playing always cleared my mind and settled my nerves, and apparently watching me play did the same for Daddy. He needed little time as much as I did. I would give him anything he needed, without question.
“That sounds perfect,” I nodded, and his eyes sparkled even more. “I'd like to draw you an extra special picture.” I thought a pretty piece of art would help cheer him up, and Daddy's smile told me I was right.
“Thank you, kitten. I would love that. And then I'll order anything you'd like for dinner.”
I searched my brain for what sounded good to eat. Daddy had been cooking a lot for us lately, and we hadn't gotten much take out. There was one thought that made my stomach growl, and I hoped he didn't think it was strange when I asked, “Can we order a pizza from Perry's?”
Daddy tipped his head back and laughed. “Sure we can. But it may not be as good since my special boy isn't the one making it.” He booped his finger on the end of my nose as I snickered. “Pizza night it is. Let's get you dressed and ready to play, and then I'll put in the order.”
“Thank you, Daddy.”
“But first, I'm going to go get your lotion from the bathroom to rub on you to make your skin feel nice.”
Yes! I loved the feel of the lotion, but mostly I loved the feel of Daddy applying it. “Thank you for taking such good care of me. You make me feel treasured and special.”
He gave a happy sigh and rested his forehead on mine. “That's all I've ever wanted, sweetheart. I love you so much.”
“I love you too, Daddy.”
He kissed me once more before rising from the bed to get the lotion. My heart was so full it ached with happiness. I had the most wonderful, perfect man in the world as my Daddy and partner. He loved me wholly, and showed his feelings unashamedly.
And now I would get to share every moment with him. Through life's ups and downs, we would share the journey as a team, side by side. We would support each other, lift each other up, and love each other with everything we had. I was proud and honored to be his boy, and excited for our future.
