I swallow thickly, feeling faint.

“Um, like—”

“Like fucking,” Melissa spits out.

The floor drops out beneath me, and suddenly, I can’t make words. My face pales, and all I can do is swallow. And the longer I just stand there looking horribly guilty, the more I realize I’m just confirming what Melissa is thinking.

Her mouth drops, her eyes going wide as this horrible, triumphant grin spreads over her face.

“Oh. My. God!” she gasps, beaming evilly at me. “Are you fucking serious!?”

“Hey!” Zara hisses, yanking Melissa away from me. “Melissa, calm the fuck down and stop being weird. Ramona is not doing anything with Jamison—”

Her eyes suddenly focus on the look on my face, and her eyes go wide as her words fail.

“Uh…” she says quietly as Melissa just cackles.

“Oh my God, that is so fucking gross!” she crows. “Your stepbrother, girl?”

“No, Melissa…” I trail off, panting, the world spinning around me. My eyes fly to Zara, and she makes a move to step towards me, but I shake my head, backing away.

“Hey, at least get him to split the pot with you,” Melissa sneers.

“What?” I whisper hollowly. “Melissa, you’ve got the wrong—”

“Uh-huh, hon, I’m sure I do,” she snickers. “But really, Jamison cleaned up with the bet by nailing you. You should definitely ask for half.”

The rest of me breaks, my legs shaking.

“What… what bet?”

She smiles thinly.

“Oh, the bet, honey. A bunch of guys on the team had a bet to see who could break in Winchester’s perfect little princess first. Sounds like Jamison got wind of it and cashed in.”

“No, that…” I shake my head. “No, Melissa—”

She just starts to laugh before suddenly; she gasps as she goes flying away from me and slamming into a locker. She hisses as she whirls at Zara, who’s red-faced and furious as she steps towards Melissa.

“Get the fuck out of here, you awful bitch,” she spits at the scandalized looking Melissa.

“Did you just fucking assault me?”

“No, I pushed you, but if you don’t get the fuck away from my friend right now, I’m damn well going to.”

Melissa’s jaw drops, looking absolutely scandalized before she turns to glare at me with a sneer.

“Not such a perfect little princess now, are you?” She spits. “Slut.”

“Get out of here!” Zara roars, making Melissa jump before she turns and starts to scurry away. But suddenly, she stops, turning to level her gaze at me.

“How was it, by the way?”

I swallow, feeling like I’m going to faint as she grins.

“I just mean, I personally thought he was great, but then, I knew what I was doing when he and I fucked.”

The rest of the floor drops out from under my feet as my heart just drops.

“I wasn’t some clueless little virgin. But at least he’s going to get paid for being your fucking training wheels.”

She smiles at me, her eyes blazing cruelty before she turns on her heel and marches away.

“Ramona,” Zara says quietly. She moves towards me, and she’s about to put a hand on my shoulder, but I shy away, shaking my head.

“Hey, Melissa Cruz is a cunt. She’s just talking out of her ass. And whatever you and Jami—” she swallows. “You know she’s just making shit up,” she says quietly.

“I have to go.”

The world is spinning around me, going topsy-turvy as I turn and flee, running staggered down the hall. And I just keep going, my mind blank and my face on fire as I ignore everyone who looks at me funny and go barreling right out the side door to the parking lot. I make a beeline for my Tesla, shuddering and feeling this horrible feeling welling up inside of me. And I make it all the way to the car before I hear him yell my name.

“Ramona!” Jamison bellows, running after me.

Tears sting my eyes as I ignore him, yanking the driver’s door open and sliding behind the wheel.

“Goddamnit, Ramona, wait!” he yells, slamming into the side of the car and stopping me from closing the door.

“Let go!” I hiss.

“I just heard,” he growls, his face a mask of rage. “Goddamnit, Ramona, you know Melissa Cruz is full of shit!”

“Is she?” I snap.

“A locker room bet?” He spits back. “When the fuck would I have ever been involved in a dumb fucking football jock bet like that?”

“You tell me!” I snap, glaring at him.

“Okay, spoiler, it’s a bullshit story and I have no idea what the fuck Melissa is even—”

“No?!” I hiss. “You have no idea what she’s doing? No insight at all?”

He scowls. “How or why the fuck would I?”

My lips purse. “Well, at least that’s a comforting thought.”

“What is.”

“That you’re equally as unattached emotionally to every girl you fuck. Guess it’s not just me.”

His eyes narrow, and he’s opening his mouth to say something when I shove his hand away and slam the door shut. I lock it, turning the car on, and even as he’s banging on the window, I throw the car into reverse and peel out, sending him staggering into another parked car. I look at him, our eyes locking and my heart breaking before I throw the car into drive and roar off, tears streaming down my face.
