She’d done what her fuck of an old man had failed to my whole life. She’d got under my skin. It took her two days to do what he couldn’t achieve in almost thirty years.

“I’m thinking about it.”

“Good let’s go. I can’t wait to see the look on Sanchez’s face when you tell him. Ain’t shit he can do once you marry the kid.”

“What the fuck Danny you got the priest in your pocket?”

“As good as, you know he won’t give you any hassle as long as the girl is willing. She is willing right boss? Or do she need some encouragement?”

“I wouldn’t know if she is or not, I haven’t asked her.”

“What’re you waiting for? Just show her the will it’s what her old man wanted. Far as I heard she always did what the old man wanted.” That was true but it didn’t sit well with me. I didn’t want to marry her on his say so.

“All joking aside, we need to move on this. The longer we sit around twiddling our thumbs, the more time we’re giving these assholes to move into our turf. Now Sanchez isn’t as popular with his MC as he thinks, otherwise he wouldn’t need to marry the girl to gain control. We need to find the weak link and weaken it even more. But know this, if we do this that would mean some of them would most likely be joining our ranks. You fucks ready for that?” That gave them something to think about.

I never show my hand, not until I’m ready to anyway. And not until I have the winning edge. That fucking will. The only thing keeping me from tearing the shit to shreds was the girl. If I turned her away she was the only one getting screwed. Again I had to ask myself why my enemy should think that would make a bit of difference to me.

There was a whole lot of psychology in there somewhere, but I’d never given Drexel credit for having half a brain much less one that could come up with something like this. It was almost as if he were trying to make reparations for what he’d done all those years ago. What I couldn’t figure is why.

In the package he’d sent with the lawyer he’d made some vague reference to what went down between him and dad, but it was enough to tell me once and for all that he was in fact the one who’d ended his life.

His words, they’d had a falling out and he’d taken out my dad before dad did him in. According to him, they were both in love with ma, and words and threats were made that led him to believe dad was going to force him out. I didn’t believe half of what he said and didn’t know why he was telling me that shit now. Unless he thought it would make me more amenable to marrying his daughter. Fucker had the nerve to say he didn’t want his line to die with him, didn’t want what he’d built to disappear.

In his twisted fuck mind he thought I’d marry his daughter and the two of us would keep the legacy of the two men who’d started the club alive. No thought to the shit storm he’d left behind, or the war I’d have on my hands to make that shit a reality.

Lucky for me I was way ahead of him. It would be a cold day in hell before I let him get one over on me. Yeah but there was the girl. Fuck!

“Any ideas on who we should approach? We haven’t exactly been on friendly terms with anyone over there.”

I tapped my fingers on the table as I pretended to contemplate Danny’s question. “I might have a way, let me think about it. Don’t say anything about this to the others yet. I still have to talk to the girl.”

“My money’s on you boss. The way she looks at you I’m sure it won’t be hard to get her to say yes.”

“What the fuck are you talking about, Damon?”

“Are you really that clueless brother?” He looked at the other two who were both watching me and nodding their heads.

“He’s right. She watches you when she thinks no one’s looking.”

“And she blushes.”

“Yep, I noticed that too. Now all we gotta do is get your mom to stop dropping in on you every night and maybe you can seal the deal.”

“Get the fuck outta here.”

Were they right? Did she look at me when she thought no one was watching? How the fuck would they know? They’d only been around her one-day and then only for the few hours I’d let her out of the office.

“What have you done?” Ma busted through the door in full fury. “What now ma?”
