Chapter One

Gage

A soft, feathery presence tickled across my face, making my nose twitch. I blinked awake, and when my eyes focused, I found my husband Tyson hovering above me, wearing a big smile and a Santa hat. He was rubbing the hat’s fluffy ball on my cheeks to wake me gently.

“Good morning, love,” he greeted before pressing a kiss to my lips. “Merry Christmas.”

“Merry Christmas, angel.” I gave him another kiss because why the hell wouldn’t I put my lips all over the most gorgeous man in creation? Then I turned my eyes to the clock on my nightstand and gasped. “Oh Tyson, I’m so sorry; I overslept! Did my alarm not go off? I know I set one!”

I had planned for my alarm to go off at six o’clock so that I could help Tyson prepare our holiday dinner. All of our friends from the force were coming over to celebrate. Of course, they chose us to host the meal, because my husband was also the most talented chef in creation. But it was already twenty minutes until eight and guilt churned in my stomach.

“I woke up around five,” Tyson replied. “I think I was too excited to sleep. I turned off your alarm because I wanted you to get some rest; you had a long shift yesterday.”

Ordinarily, I wouldn't have been able to sleep without Tyson's beautiful body wrapped around me like an octopus, but I must have been exhausted. In order to get the holiday off work, I picked up a double the day before. It was worth it to have Christmas off with Tyson and our friends, but it was a long shift for this old man. Still, Tyson took care of me, just like he always did.

Every day, I convinced myself that my husband couldn’t get any sweeter, but every day he continued to prove me wrong. He always put everyone’s needs ahead of his own, and showed his thoughtful care in countless little ways.

“Thank you, angel. Now I’m rested and ready to help you cook. I just hope we can get everything ready in time.”

“No worries,” he replied with a smile and a shrug. “I’ve got the turkey in the oven, the green beans simmering on the stovetop, and the bread dough is rising.”

That added a little more guilt into my gut, but I also knew Tyson loved to cook, so it wasn’t really a chore for him. The fact that he was going to feed all of his friends surely added to his excitement, which was probably why he woke up so early.

“You’re incredible, you know that?” Tyson giggled and gave me another kiss. I could never get enough. “Is there anything I can do to help you?”

“There is one very important thing I need you to do.”

“Name it.”

“I need you to close your eyes and get ready for a very special gift.”

I blinked in surprise. “Another gift? Tyson, you didn’t have to do that! You already spoiled me rotten last night.”

When I got home after my shift, my husband and I had a celebration of our own. We wanted a quiet moment for just the two of us (four, if you count our dogs Axel and Koda, which, of course, Tyson did), before the chaos of the dinner hit.

We turned out the living room lights and sat next to our lit Christmas tree to exchange gifts. My angel made our pups some homemade treats and bought them enough toys to last the whole year, which is saying something, considering how destructive they could be with their chew toys.

Tyson gave me so many wonderful things as well, including a gear rack where I could hang my duty belt and vest, new tongs for my grill, and a red satin robe with my name stitched on the pocket.

“Trust me, you’ll like this one,” he told me with a wink. I had no doubt; everything he gave me was wonderful. “Close your eyes.”

I did so, wishing I had something else to give him, while also excitedly wondering what awaited me. I heard quite a bit of shuffling, a drawer opening and closing, and finally, Christmas music played through the air.

“Open your eyes.”

At Tyson’s command, my eyes not only opened but bulged wide, taking in the sight of my husband wearing his Santa hat along with a red robe that matched the one he bought for me.

He held the robe’s belt in his hands, spinning the fabric strips in time with the cheery song that played. I knew what was happening; my angel was blessing me with a sexy dance. He often did so on special occasions, like my birthday, Valentine’s Day, or random Tuesdays. I wasn’t sure if I’d receive one on such a holy day, but holy shit, I was thankful.

I sat upright in bed, resting my back against the pillow and getting comfortable for the show. Tyson spun the belt ends like propellers, making me dizzy from the motion and lust.
