“It’s not your job to watch over me,” she argued.

“No, it’s mine,” the Fox told them firmly. “It’s my job to keep the two of you safe. And obviously, I failed.”

“So does that mean we get to spank you, Daddy?” she asked.

His brown eyes moved to stare at her. Uh-oh. “What did I say earlier about you spanking me, baby girl?”

“Oh yeah, right.”

Silly Autumn.

The big bad Daddy Dom is never going to let you spank him.

Not that she actually wanted to. That would be . . . weird.

“And it’s also my job to punish you both when you misbehave.”

“I told you, Daddy. It was just me. Not Brody-bear. He’s innocent on all charges.”

“Is that so?” The Fox turned that glacial gaze on Brody. “What time is your bedtime, Pup?”

“Eleven, Papa.”

“What time is it now?” the Fox asked Brody.

“Um, well, it’s nearly two in the morning.”

“You’ve both been naughty and tomorrow you’ll be punished.”

“Tomorrow?” she repeated. “Can’t you do it now, Daddy?”

“No. You need sleep.”

How easy would it be to sleep with that hanging over them? This was gonna suck. A thought occurred to her.

“So, uh, you can hear us? There’s not just cameras?” she asked

“That’s right, baby girl. I could hear you talk. I could also see you on the toboggan going down the stairs. Do you know all the things that could have happened to you? You could have broken your neck. You could have knocked yourself out. What would have happened then? What would Brody have done?”

Uh-oh.

He was really, really upset.

“Have you always had that tic there, Daddy?” She pointed next to his right eye.

“No, I have not.”

“Oh. Right.” Yikes.

“What were you thinking?” he repeated.

Hmm. “I guess I wasn’t, Daddy.”

“No, you weren’t. Both of you will sleep in tomorrow and you can expect a nap as well. After your punishment.” He put toothpaste on their toothbrushes. Brody had two. A more adult one and a Spiderman one. She just had one with a bunny head on one end. He held them up, one in each hand.

Brody reached for his Spiderman one and the Fox gave him a look, pulling it back. “No, you let Papa brush your teeth. Open, both of you.”

Autumn was used to it, but she knew Brody was probably struggling slightly. Red tinted his cheeks, but he didn’t protest as the Fox brushed their teeth. He was ambidextrous and seemed to do it easily. Then the Fox lifted them off the counter and turned them toward the bedroom.

He slapped their asses. “Get into bed. Now.”

Autumn got in on one side and Brody moved to the other, taking off his glasses and setting them on the nightstand. The Fox disappeared had out of the room. She reached into the nightstand drawer and drew out one of her pacifiers. She now had a collection of them. The Fox enjoyed buying her different ones that took his fancy.

Tonight she chose one that had the image of cherries on the front.

When he returned, his disguise was fully gone. He pulled on a pair of pajama bottoms and climbed between them. This was her favorite position to sleep in. With the Fox on his back and both of them curled up on either side of him.

She drew the pacifier from her mouth. “I’m sorry that I was naughty, Daddy.”

“I know, baby girl,” he said in a low voice.

“We should have gone to bed at our bedtime,” Brody-bear added.

“Yes, you should have. And tomorrow, you’ll regret that you didn’t.”

She already regretted that.

“We was worried about you, Daddy.”

He ran his hand up and down her back soothingly. “I called you and told you I would be late and to go to bed.”

“Yeah, but I was still worried,” she told him.

“Me too, Papa,” Brody added.

“And I just wanted to do a small experiment to see if tobogganing down the stairs was possible. Spoiler alert. It is.”

“I can’t have you so worried that you do dangerous things,” the Fox said. “Perhaps it’s time I looked into hiring you both a nanny.”

“What?” She sat up and gaped down at him. “Nuh-uh, Daddy. No nanny!”

“Yeah, we don’t need one, Papa!” Brody added, rolling onto his side and leaning up on his elbow.

The Fox stared up at them. “And I want you both safe. If I can’t be here, then you might need someone else to watch over you.”

“I don’t want anyone but you, Daddy!” Trembling, she threw herself into his arms. “I only want you and Brody. I can’t . . . I can’t have anyone else . . .”

“Hey, shh. Shh, it’s all right. No nanny. All right?”

“Tutu, it’s all right,” Brody-bear told her, rubbing her back. “Papa wouldn’t have a stranger here with us, anyway.”

No, that’s right. He wouldn’t.

“Well, she wouldn’t be a stranger after a while,” the Fox said. “And I’d get someone who was well-trained.”
