“I’m talking about my dad,” she said.

“I know, but your dad wants something from you. Why don’t you use that to your advantage? He will take and take and take, if you let him. Or you can be strong. Don’t give in to him. Fight for this life. Make a good one with Colt. I’m sure he’s not a complete asshole.”

“He is.”

“Yeah, you’re probably right. He must be good in bed.”

Rosalie burst out laughing. “Hell, no, it’s horrible.”

“What? Sex with Colt is horrible?”

She didn’t even realize she’d been crying, but she quickly wiped the tears from her face.

“Yeah, it is. I … I have to take lubrication with me. It’s so not good. I feel sorry for all those porn stars we’ve seen.”

“Sex cannot be bad. I refuse to believe it,” Petal said.

“Trust me, it is, and I never want to do it, but I’ve got to.”

“You don’t have to do anything you don’t want to. Remember that.”

She loved her friend so much and wished she still had the same feelings about everything, but she knew differently.

Petal didn’t have to worry about her mother, or her own sanity. She was a pawn between two clubs and now Colt was trying to, what, make amends? She had no idea what he wanted, but she had a feeling it couldn’t be good.

Would it be worse than dealing with her father?

Chapter Ten

One Week Later

Colt hadn’t seen or heard from Rosalie.

He’d done some errands for his father, club stuff. At church, he’d updated the club with what he had learned. Everyone within the Satan’s Death Riders MC were now aware of what Daemon was capable of. They also knew Rosalie was the key, that Daemon was going to use her in some way.

Warden had arranged for the club to divide protection duties. They would take turns keeping an eye on Gabrielle.

Kim was looking into local property which would allow them to move Gabrielle closer. In the meantime, Warden wanted him to get closer to Rosalie, to earn her trust.

For a week, he’d avoided that responsibility, but there was no way for him to avoid it anymore. So, with Ox and Myth at his back, he arrived at Al’s diner, where Rosalie still worked. She refused to quit. He’d tried to get her to stop and had attempted to get her to move in with him, all of which had failed. They only had Friday nights. Which, according to his calendar, this Friday she’d be on her cycle, so there was no chance of any sex.

Stepping into the diner, he spotted Rosalie instantly. Her raven hair captured his attention. Her uniform was no longer tight around her body, but looked too big. He didn’t like how thin she looked.

Several families were there eating dinner. When he and the guys stepped inside, they looked ready to shit themselves. A few of the young boys looked at them in awe.

He took a seat in the middle of the diner and Petal was the one to come and serve them. She held her notepad in her hand and glared at them.

“What can I get you?” Petal asked.

“Rosalie.”

“She’s not on the menu, but from what I hear, you don’t know what you’re doing anyway.”

Ox and Myth looked at him. The double meaning was clear. Colt had heard Rosalie talk to Petal. He wanted to hate Petal. She had a mouth on her and always seemed to be in the way, at least to him, but when it came to Rosalie, she was a good friend. She always had her back.

What he didn’t like was how Rosalie had referred to sex and how bad it was with him. The sex had been awful, there was no point in denying it. It fucking sucked, big time.

“Rosalie will take our orders,” Colt said.

Petal rolled her eyes. “Do you enjoy tormenting her?”

“I’m here to have some food.”

Petal rounded the table until she was close to him. “If you hurt her, I swear you’ll regret it.”

She didn’t linger for a comeback and he sat back, looking toward the main counter where Rosalie filled salt and pepper pots.

“Did I hear that right, that chick just insinuated you don’t know how to fuck?” Myth asked.

“Shut up,” Colt said.

“We all know the girls talk about you and how you make them moan and beg for hours,” Ox said.

“I have to admit, I thought Rosalie would have been following him around like a little puppy dog just begging for his dick.”

“What can I get you?” Rosalie asked.

From the redness of her cheeks, Colt knew she’d heard. Fuck.

“A couple of cheeseburgers and fries,” Colt said. “That’s just for me. Ox, Myth, order.”

She took their orders and stepped away. He looked at her ass, wishing to see and touch more of those luscious curves. She needed to eat.

Petal continued to glare at them. He didn’t give a shit. His focus was on Rosalie, who continued to serve others. He saw her smile as she talked to the families and even entertained the kids as she did so. She looked so … sweet. Would she make a good mother?
