Suddenly, I stop the kiss, spinning her and leaning down so I can drive my dick against her ass. At the same time, I reach around and massage her breasts, indulging in them, unable to stop until I hear raised voices again.

It’s Clive and Cynthia. They’re on their way back.

Again, Brooke and I duck. They pass by, discussing the wedding, and then Brooke and I stare at each other.

She bites her lip as if she’s finding it difficult not to succumb to the lust again. As if she’s finding it as impossible as I am.

But we have to try. We have to fight.

“I’m not sure I can ignore you the whole weekend,” she murmurs.

“I know I can’t ignore you,” I tell her. “But look what happens when we’re alone together. I’m addicted to your perfect, curvy body already.”

She nods, making a hmm moaning noise, then we’re on each other again. Our mouths fix together, our lips desperate, our tongues urgent as I push down on her ass to bring out bodies closer.

I wish there was no space between us, no clothes separating us.

“We have phones,” I growl, breaking the kiss off somehow. “If we get desperate, we can text each other. We can talk. Maybe that will make it easier. But if we’re caught, especially on his wedding weekend…I can’t do that to him.”

“Neither can I,” she whispers. “Maybe we should do that, then. Just text if we have to. But mostly try to forget this ever happened?”

I shake my head, cradling her face in my hands, feeling her heat blazing through her cheeks. “I’m not going to forget this, Brooke. I’m going to think about it every second of every day until we can do it again…and more.”

She nods. “Me too.”

“But if we can,” I tell her, “we shouldn’t even text each other. We have to try and be strong.”

“Be strong?” Her smile makes my heart shiver warmly. “Are you saying I’m that hard to resist, huh?”

“Yeah,” I say firmly. “That’s exactly what I’m saying.”

We stare at each other for a long moment. It’s like we’re talking silently, agreeing that we could stay here for the rest of the evening, kissing, getting closer….

But then she turns away, sighing.

“I think we should head back.”

“Yeah,” I agree, nodding. “I think you’re right.”

She walks ahead of me, making it difficult not to let my gaze leap to her ass, hips, and hair. It’s so lustrous and wavy, making me think of lazy Sunday afternoons, lying in bed with her as I smooth my fingers through it.

After a pause, I follow, knowing we have to be strong.

CHAPTER 7

Brooke

Mila and I stand on the other side of the party, at the edge of the fairy-light perimeter.

The island is gorgeous at night but surprisingly cold. Stars gaze down from a clear sky. Many of them are so much brighter than at home in the city. Music plays from the speaker system in the center, and people dance on the sand, laughing, and enjoying themselves.

“This is wonderful, isn’t it?” Mila says, again with that air like she’s trying to wrench me from my thoughts.

I’ve been drifting off, finding it difficult not to think of Banner and what we did. The real kiss is so much sweeter than the ones in my imagination.

And his hand between my legs, stroking against my naked sex, spreading my wetness, and making me want more.

“Yes,” I say, after a pause. “You don’t have to hang around with me. I know I’m no fun tonight.”

Mila smirks playfully. I can’t help but smile in response.

“I have to stick close,” she teases. “I’m your Banner shield.”

“Hey….”

I’m about to tell her to keep her voice down, but nobody’s close by. I can see Banner talking with two other men on the other side of the beach near the opposite fairy lights.

He’s wearing chino shorts and a shirt that lets me study his body, his strong outline. He’s too far away to make out his features, but I can remember how intensely he gazed at me.

“Have you texted him yet?” Mila asks.

I turn to her sharply. She looks magazine-worthy in her stylish flowing summer dress and her interwoven hair.

“Do you think I should?”

Mila shrugs. “I don’t know, but you’re eye-fucking the hell out of him.”

“I am not.”

But then we both laugh because it’s so obvious that I totally am.

The laughter feels good, a release from all the pressure inside me since the meeting just over an hour ago.

My body’s sore from what we did, yet aching for another round.

“Maybe I will,” I murmur. “But….”

Dad walks over with a broad grin on his face, looking the happiest I’ve seen him since Sonya said yes.

“Why are you hiding over here?” he asks, his smile widening as if it’s going to spread off his face and join the stars.

Is that a bitter thought? Is that the sort of daughter I want to be, judging my dad for smiling?
