“Well, there’s no one else named to any board of directors or any mention of exactly what LimeLight Division is. Only that it has an insane amount of money at its disposal.” I set my phone down on the arm of the love seat. “I’ll have to check bank records to see who has access to it.” Advanced searches weren’t something I could do from my fucking phone, but I wanted to. I wanted to find the connection to her father’s death and this LimeLight Division. Because I had a bad feeling all this was going to do nothing but hurt Emmanuell more than she was already hurting.

“Is this something we need to pursue?” Vicious asked, looking from me to Thorn. “Seems like it’s not our business to meddle in.”

“Depends on what we learn from Beaner,” Thorn said, looking at Emmanuell thoughtfully. “Have you been to see Doc yet, Emmanuell?”

“No.” She’d stopped trying to free her hand, but the other one was now clutching at her pants instead of my hand. I didn’t like it. “I don’t want to put anyone out. I’ve gone this long. I can wait until I get my purse and my insurance card back from Devan. I’ll go to a doctor then.”

“You should really let Doc examine you.” Lucy leaned forward, resting her hand on Emmanuell’s free one briefly. “I’ll be happy to go with you, if you like. If nothing else, a quick ultrasound to make sure the baby’s doing well. You could see your child for the first time.” She said it like it was the greatest wonder of the world. I’m sure it was, though I’d never given that shit much thought.

“I’ll think about it.” Emmanuell’s voice was so soft it was hard to hear. I got the feeling she really wanted to do this but had no intention of going through with it. Probably because she felt like she should pay for the service.

“Doc’s gonna see her tomorrow.” I gave Emmanuell a firm look. She wasn’t bucking me on this. “Until then, she’s gonna rest.”

Kitty rolled her eyes. “Men. Always trying to boss when they should be minding their own business.”

“I know, right?” Lucy gave Emmanuell a grin before standing. “Why don’t we make sure you’ve got everything you need.” She reached out to Emmanuell and urged her to her feet. “You boys can see yourselves out. Kitty and I will take care of Emmanuell.”

“Like hell,” I muttered. Kitty raised an eyebrow at me with a smirk, but I ignored her.

Once they were in Emmanuell’s bedroom with the door closed, Tobias stood and paced across the room. “Fuck,” he muttered. “This is gonna come back to bite us in the ass.”

“That shit hill, Beaner, has a lot to answer for.” Thorn sighed as he stood. “We’ll give it till morning. Then we’ll get everything out of that little fuck we can.”

“I’ll see what else I can dig up.” I had every intention of looking into Beaner as hard as I looked at Goldstein. My gut was telling me they were connected. “If I’m right, Beaner has put the club in one fuckin’ bad position.”

“If you’re right --” Thorn met my gaze with a hard one of his own. “-- He dies. So you better be fuckin’ right.”

“I won’t come to you with anything less than concrete proof.” I glanced back at Emmanuell’s bedroom door. “She don’t need a bunch of horny bikers makin’ passes at her. I want it known she’s under my protection.”

Tobias snorted. “There’s a shocker.”

“What?” I snarled at the VP. “She don’t!”

“Yeah? Who’s gonna keep you outta her panties?”

Good Goddamned question.

Chapter Three

Emmanuell

The women of Salvation’s Bane were the nicest, most accepting people I’d ever met. They fussed over me, made sure I had several pretty sets of maternity wear, and all the necessary things I’d had to deny myself because of lack of funds. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t breathe a sigh of relief that they’d taken over so completely. But I still felt bad about it.

“Really, you guys have done too much. I need to contribute something to repay you.”

Lucy leaned in conspiratorially. “You can repay us by keeping Ripper in line.”

I blinked up at her. “What?”

“Ripper. He’s in charge of the club’s cyber security. And he’s a bit of a maniac.” Kitty sat on the other side of the bed, grinning at me. “He’s got a GPS tracker in every one of our cars. Our husband and boyfriends put them in our purses. A couple of them have had trackers made into jewelry to keep on our person, and it’s catching on.”

“Oh, my God! They want to control you that much?”

“Oh, no, sweetie,” Lucy said with a light chuckle. “Not to control us. To protect us. That way they know where we are in case we need help. They already track our phones, but, honestly, it’s that way for everyone. Ripper is the chief instigator in that affair too.”
