“What should we eat?” I ask.

“I know what I want,” he responds in his usual sexy and playful manner. My cheeks warm, and I shake my head in disbelief. Being with Paxton will never grow dull—that much is for sure.

“You’re impossible. How about that new Italian place downtown?” I suggest, my smile growing wider.

“Perfect,” he says, ushering me out the door. “Just what I had in mind.”

He starts to lead me to the center of the room, but then he stops abruptly.

“Fuck it,” he mutters, and I shake my head in confusion. “I can’t wait another minute.”

I’m about to ask him what he’s talking about when he suddenly drops to one knee.

My heart stops.

“Mallory,” he says seriously.

I feel like I’m on the edge of a roller coaster—my heart racing as it drops with the sensation of free-falling.

“What are you doing?” I ask in disbelief although it’s obvious what he’s about to do.

My pulse races as tears form in my eyes.

“Will you marry me?”

I let out a laugh—I can’t help it. “Yes!”

He moves to stand just as I throw my arms around his neck, and then Paxton kisses me. His mouth latches on to mine as if he needs me to breathe. This isn’t a sweet kiss. It’s a kiss of ownership, and as the room erupts in cheers and clapping, I remember we’re standing in the middle of the common space.

My now fiancé, tongue deep in my mouth, couldn’t wait a second for us to be alone. He’s kissing me like he’s fucking me in front of everyone who works here.

If I thought my cheeks were warm before, they are practically on fire now.

Slowly, the kiss and cheers die down, and we pull away from each other.

“I love you,” he whispers in my ear as our bodies remain pressed together.

My stomach does somersaults as I realize that we are officially engaged.

The next few moments seem like a blur of hugs, congratulations, and well-wishes.

I can’t stop smiling.

My heart overflows with so many emotions that I can’t find the right words.

Paxton pulls me toward him, and as he does, the rest of the world fades away. We both know that no matter what happens, our love will never waver or fade. We have each other, and that’s all we need.

It feels like the stars aligned and brought us both to that island. Sure, it wasn’t easy to get here, but as I look into Paxton’s eyes, I know I wouldn’t change one minute of the past as long as it leads me to him.

To Paxton.

My forever.

And our forever begins now.
