I learned that yes, his dad had a mate, but no, she wasn't mad that he ran around ‘porking half the women on Earth’, because he inseminated them with magic, not his dick. His mate also didn't mind the whole babynapping thing because she was as aggressive and prideful as Ares.

I also wondered about Athena; virginity was her claim to fame, so I was curious if she was mated. Sloan explained that she shared a deep, romantic love with her partner, but they didn't engage in a sexual relationship. I knew there were many happy asexual humans, and it seemed the supernatural world was no different.

Sloan told me that Fate sealed the pair's bond in a different, special way. When I asked what he meant, he explained that he and I would cement our bond by sharing our bodies; that when he made love to me and planted his seed deep inside me, it would twist our souls and lifelines together.

I had to bite my cheek to keep from moaning, but there was nothing I could do to stop the growing bulge in my pants. The thought of being with Sloan was driving me wild. Not only was he hands down the sexiest man I'd ever laid eyes on, he was sweet, caring, and all mine. It was hard to believe, but wonderful to think about. I wanted to pull him into the backseat of the SUV and have my filthy way with him, but I knew he was excited to meet with Christos.

I managed to get myself cooled down and under control by the time we reached the apartment building where Christos and Sloan both lived. At first, I was surprised at its simplicity; Sloan was a hugely successful boxer, and could surely afford to live extravagantly.

But then I realized; this home was temporary to him. He had his sights set on returning to Olympus, so he wasn’t interested in what this world had to offer. It broke my heart to think about the time he’d spent here on Earth. For ten years, he had spent countless hours training, fought an endless line of opponents, all while believing that he was unworthy to return home.

Ares had really fucked with his head; Sloan had a sweet heart, but his father only cared about how hard he could punch. It disgusted me, but I would support him in anything he wanted, and I would make it my mission to constantly remind him of all the ways he was great - not only inside the ring.

We entered the elevator and rode up to the sixth floor. After a short walk down the hallway, Sloan knocked on door 642, and Christos answered with a smile.

“Please, come in,” he invited with an outstretched arm. He led us into a simple but charming living room, where the coffee table had been pushed against the sofa, opening up the floor. “There’s nothing I want more than to see you enter,” he told Sloan sincerely.

I was in awe of Christos as well. I couldn’t imagine what his young life had been like; his father told him he wasn’t good enough to be a fighter, which was basically the only thing he valued. Instead, Ares appointed him to be Sloan’s right-hand-man. I could see where resentment could grow, but instead, Christos only wanted good things for his friend. Sure, his fortune was tied to Sloan’s success, but I could tell that he genuinely wanted happiness for his friend as well.

“Thank you,” Sloan replied, placing his hand on Christos’ shoulder. Christos clasped him back, and they smiled at one another before Sloan turned to me. “I’ve tried many times to enter Olympus’s realm, but have always been denied entrance. I pray I will not fail you now.”

My heart sank, and I took his hand in mine. “Sloan, I want this for you, but if it doesn’t work out, you won’t be failing me, and I won’t be disappointed. Being with you is what matters to me. The rest is just details.”

He rested his forehead on mine and looked into my eyes when he replied, “You honor me.” Sloan took my lips in a slow, deep kiss that ended too quickly.

When he pulled away, my eyes opened and adjusted to find Christos with his hand on Sloan’s arm. “I’m sorry to interrupt, but it’s time.”

Sloan nodded and explained to me, “We only have a short window of time; midnight is when worlds are in harmony. It’s a fresh start to a new day, and the best time to cross between realms.”

I nodded my understanding, and then my eyes widened when Christos handed Sloan a knife. “What the hell is that for?”

“Ares demands a blood sacrifice to enter his realm,” Sloan replied as he touched the blade to his wrist. Of course he fucking does. The more I heard about the guy, the less impressed I became.
