“Uh, actually, I definitely can,” she shoots back. “Because I’ve never had sex in a public bathroom before.”

“But surely you have had sex in public?”

“No!” She shakes her head. “Why would I?”

“Why wouldn’t you?” I correct her, holding up a finger to emphasize my point. “With a body like that, I’m surprised the loser guys you were with were ever able to wait until you got home.”

Alyssa blushes. “They weren’t losers. And you don’t always have to do that, you know.”

“Do what, love?”

“Talk about me like I’m the hottest girl ever,” she replies. “I’m not stupid—I already know that at the very least you hooked up with Geesha Riley, and she was actually voted ‘Hottest Woman in the World’ like twice in a row—”

“You have no idea, Alyssa Smith,” I interrupt, wishing the words weren’t forcing their way out of my mouth, “what I would do to you right now if you were mine.”

“…What would you do to me?” she practically whispers, her black-lined amber eyes widening. “If I were yours?” The noise and the other people in the club fade away, and I’m caught in the spell of those eyes, her creamy skin, the full lower lip that I want to trace like that pen, first with my fingers, then my lips, then my—

“Well, Alyssa Smith,” I keep my voice low too as I move closer to her body until I can feel the faint waves of heat coming off it, “because it’s our first time, I would take you back to my place. You know, I’m selfish and I wouldn’t want anyone else to hear the way you moan. As soon as we got in the door, I couldn’t wait any longer. I’d wrap an arm ‘round your waist and lift your chin and kiss the fuck out of you. Before you could catch your breath, I’d push you against the wall, slide my knee between your legs, and move with your body. When you’re ready, I’d slip my hand under your skirt and taste your wetness on my fingers. Then I would slowly slide your panties down to the floor, grab you by the waist, and lift you up just enough so you could wrap your legs around my sides and get comfortable against me.”

I pause for a moment, taking another sip of my drink, before I finish with my description. “And then I’d fuck your brains out, Alyssa Smith.”

“Oh.” Alyssa’s blush gets even deeper. “I…um…”

“Would it make you feel better if I told you that I was just kidding around?” I ask, with a playful wink. “Even though you and I both know that’s complete and utter bullshit.”

“…I think that sounds kind of nice, actually,” she murmurs. “If you…if you wanted to take me back to your place—”

“No,” I reply, already shaking my head.

“No?”

“You’re drunk, Alyssa,” I explain. “And I’m pretty sure I’m a few drinks away from being drunk myself. Besides, I’d never forgive myself if I tried to make a move on you in your current state.”

“…But I want you to.”

“Right.” I smirk. “Because you’re drunk. If you were sober, I’m pretty sure you would’ve slapped me across the face for what I just said to you.”

“…Can we still go back to your place?” she asks. “Not to…not for that. I just…I don’t think I want to go back to the apartment tonight.”

“Isn’t your friend waiting up on you?”

“Nope.” Alyssa flashes a sad smile. “She texted me a few minutes ago to let me know that she’s going to a different bar with a guy she met during one of her auditions a few days ago. Fuck. It feels like we just got here and she’s already passing me by. I can’t even get the boys in my band to show up for a drink at a bar and she’s networking all over town.”

Alyssa closes her eyes as she continues. “I just…I just don’t want to be alone tonight. And I don’t want to feel like a huge nerd who can’t even score an invite back to a guy’s place for the night. I’m supposed to be this upcoming star, and I seriously can’t even—”

“You can come back to my place, Alyssa,” I interrupt her with a smile of my own. “You can even tell your friend that I fucked your brains out, if it makes you feel better.”

“Thanks, Rhys.” She smirks over at me.

And as she does, I feel something start to warm inside my chest.

Chapter 4

Alyssa

I wake up in a strange bed, looking up at an even stranger ceiling.

What the hell?

The ceiling looks like it was painted by a master artist, images of clouds and palaces swirling across its surface. It reminds me of something straight out of the Renaissance, something that would be at home in old European museums beside images of stuffy-looking kings and queens in powdery white makeup.
