“Yes, sir.” I don’t tell him who I’m speaking with because he’s not waiting for me to move. Instead, he’s holding the door open with a scowl on his brutally handsome face. And just then the sky darkens, and the clouds let loose. Rain pours down in sheets as we hurry down the street.

In seconds we’re both wet and scurry into the building. My body stiffens when he growls in annoyance. If he hadn’t come to get me, he’d be nice and dry instead of drenched.

“Looks like you didn’t make it in time,” Joey in Marketing says as we reach the elevators.

“If you want to keep your job, you’ll turn around and wait for the next elevator,” Mr. Hardwick barks at Joey as the elevator dings open.

We step inside and he presses our floor. As soon as the doors close, I give him a piece of my mind. “I know you’re mad at me, but you shouldn’t take it out on someone else. He’s a nice guy and a hard worker.”

“He was staring at your tits that are now on display.” I look down and gasp. My blouse is completely see-through along with my lacy white bra. With a swift motion, I wrap my arms around my chest. “Don’t worry, I’m not looking.”

“You don’t want to look, but the elevators have cameras,” I remind him. Quickly, he takes off his suit jacket and wraps it over my shoulders.

“Thank you.” I know he’s just being polite, so as soon as we reach my desk, I hand him his coat back and slide on my jacket. “Thank you again.”

“You’re welcome. Next time, dress for the elements.” He storms off to his office, throwing me off again.

“Dick,” I mutter.

He turns on his heels and is back at my desk, leaning down and staring me directly in my face. “Your voice carries, my flower. If you don’t want my advice, at least keep your barbs to yourself.”

“I’m sorry.”

He shakes his head lightly, and with that smooth, deep voice, he adds, “No, you’re not. It’s okay. I’m not going to fire you just yet.” This time he walks away, and I hold my tongue. He looks back with a smirk, begging me to say something again. Damn, big bad wolf.

Chapter Five

Lincoln

I want to take her over my fucking lap and spank that ass of hers. A dick? I’m a dick? She’s fucking lucky I didn’t punish her for showing off those fabulous tits to that asshole she liked. “He’s a nice guy.” They’re all nice because they want to fuck her. Does she not see how sexy she is and the way they look at her? My entire being is affected by her.

Two fucking days and I’m ready to go insane. How am I supposed to hang on without earning a damn lawsuit of my own?

It’s nearly five o’clock when Davis finally sends up his presentation to my office. Luckily, he doesn’t dare speak to Lacey again because I’m so damn tempted to fire his ass. That shit he pulled in Subway was so damn obvious. I could have him fired for sexual harassment or beaten his ass which both felt like serious options.

“This will do just fine, Davis. You may go.” My voice is hard and dismissive, giving him no room to argue or delay. He leaves my office and then I go looking for Lacey to make sure he keeps his distance.

She’s busy making copies, so I lean into the copy room and say, “Ms. Flowers, in my office.”

“I’ll be done making copies in five minutes.”

“Now, Lacey.” She rolls her eyes, and I want to bend her over the damn copier and spank her ass for that shit.

“Yes, Mr. Hardwick.”

She sets everything down and then follows me into my office. I don’t know exactly why I’m summoning her because I honestly don’t have a reason other than I need to see her. Fuck, it’s foolish because she’s now my assistant, which I hadn’t worked according to plan. Frankly, I hadn’t thought any of this out.

“You wanted me?” You have no idea. It’s been one hell of a week, and it’s only Wednesday.

“Yes, how did you arrive at work today?” If she had a boyfriend drop her off, we were going to have a problem that I’m going to have to deal with because it’s over between them whether she knows it or not.

Her brows furrow before she answers, “The train.”

I nod, an ounce of tension leaving my shoulders. “Okay. From now on, you’ll be driven to and from the office.”

“What? That’s unnecessary, Mr. Hardwick.”

It’s more than necessary to assure her safety and give me some peace of mind. “Seeing as I expect my employees to be on time, especially my assistant, I deem it quite necessary. It’s not up for negotiation, Lacey.”

“Yesterday was the first time I was late. Today I was fine.”
