“Do you care about my son?” Duke asked.

In the room were Pike and Raoul.

“What?”

“You and I are very aware of how much my son loves you,” Duke said.

“Look, if this is about what Holly said and me giving her back the cookies, I think you need to back off. I’ve heard all of Matthew’s…” She closed her eyes. “Whatever they are.”

Duke sat back. “You don’t think he loves you?”

Luna tilted her head to the side and gritted her teeth. “He has always said it, Mr. Bana. Nothing in that regard has changed and years ago, I believed him and got my heart broken.”

He leaned forward on his desk. “I know my son, and I can promise you, Luna, you’re the only person my son has ever confessed his love to. I’ve watched that boy for the past few years, and I can tell you there is no one else for him. He got his shit together. Cleaned up his act, and I know not a day goes by when he doesn’t regret what he did to you. He’d take it all back if he could.”

“Why did you want to see me?” Luna didn’t want to hear about what Matthew had been through. Part of her wanted to cave and give them a real chance, but she was terrified. What if it was a ruse? What if he was only after some fun?

“I’m aware, in the past, Matthew has told you some club secrets.”

“I have no idea what you’re talking about.” She wasn’t going to run the risk of him getting in trouble.

Duke smiled. “I guess I’m not being clear, but you see, being an old lady in this club comes with a certain level of commitment. We need to know that our women have our backs.” He pressed his fingers together and broke eye contact for a couple of minutes.

During that time, Luna felt like she could breathe. For the first time. Then he looked back up.

She didn’t want to get Matthew in trouble. What the hell was he doing, telling her club secrets that could and might get him killed? She was so infuriated with him right now.

But he trusted you with club secrets. He didn’t have to.

“There is a situation going down in Vale Valley. A drug problem. One of our young women made me aware of this little problem.”

“Okay.”

“You have contacts. People who can reach out and find a supplier.”

Luna looked from Pike to Raoul, and then back to Duke. “Mr. Bana, I don’t do drugs.”

“You don’t,” Raoul said. “But that doesn’t mean you don’t know people who do.”

It didn’t even take her long to think. She had been to one frat party in college, and that had been enough. Stepping into the bathroom, she had seen way too much and opted to leave.

“I need you to get in contact with the supplier or find someone who can help. You cannot tell Matthew that you’re doing this for me.”

“If I do this, you’ll leave Matthew alone. He won’t become hurt or anything like that?” she asked.

“I would never hurt my son.”

“But your club might.”

Duke smirked. “Just how much did he tell you?”

She had walked right into that one, and she fucking hated it. “Will you?”

“Matthew will be protected. You have my word.”

And Matthew had always said his father kept his word.

“Then, deal.” She hated that she knew exactly who to call.

Arriving at Luna’s house took him a little longer than necessary. The errand his father had wanted him to do was a wild fucking goose chase. He held a letter and had given him a location to deliver it to.

The location was a field. That was it. No great revelation.

He’d called his dad, who had then given him an instruction to read the note.

Sometimes, we all do things we don’t understand but there is a greater purpose.

That was what the letter had said.

His father had sent him on a meaningless journey, and now, he wanted to be with Luna. He’d thought about her all day.

She opened the door, wearing a robe. “Matthew? I didn’t think you’d be back tonight.”

He stepped into her home, closed the door, flicked the locks into place, and then banded his arm around her waist to pull her in close.

“I decided that coming here was a lot more important.” He kissed her hard, and Luna pressed against his shoulders.

“Don’t get yourself in trouble. The patch means everything to you.”

“I know and I won’t. I promise. I, er, I want to be here, with you. I promise, I’ve done all the club stuff. I’m a responsible man now.” He pulled on the belt of her robe and eased it off her shoulders.

She wore a silk negligee.

“Oh, fuck me.”

“Tell me you brought more condoms.”

He reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out the crushed box. He hadn’t tampered with any of them.
