"Blanche has called in already, he's on a secret mission and has handed over the case you were working on to someone else."

"He called?" I gasp.

"Yeah, he did. Nothin' suspicious happenin' there. Are you feeling okay, Zariah?"

He doesn't believe me.

Nothing I say will make him believe me.

Fuck this god damned station and everyone in it.

"Where is he?" I demand, standing.

"He's on a secret mission, politics. We can't give away any information about that, sorry."

"He's lying!" I cry, throwing my hands up. "I know you don't respect me, Carson, but he's the one behind selling those women. He sells them on that island..."

Carson stands, leaning forward over his desk. "Be very fuckin' careful what you accuse someone of, Zariah. You're walkin' a thin line."

"Go to the island, search it! I am making a statement. I'll write it down. I'll say everything he did to me. You need to find him."

"We're not going to search his island for no good reason. We have nothing against him or no reason to suspect him. You want us to take you seriously, find me proof. Otherwise, get back to fucking work."

I flinch, and at that moment, I decide I'm done.

I'm fucking done.

I pull out my badge and toss it on his desk. "I quit."

Carson looks shocked, completely taken back.

"None of you respect me. None of you care about what I have to say. This station is a god damned joke. I quit. I am done."

I turn and walk out of his office, my chest tight. I go to my office and gather all of my things in a box, then with my head held high, I walk towards the exit of the station.

"Zariah!" Carson's voice echoes out behind me.

I turn, a small glimmer of hope in my chest as he approaches me.

"Turn in your gun."

My hope is slashed.

Fuck him.

Fuck them all.

One day, they'll wish they listened to me.

One day.

"MOMMY! JAYDEN SNUGGLES into me as we sit around the fire later that night. "Mommy."

"I missed you too, baby," I murmur, ruffling his hair.

"Come over here, boy," Kendric says, walking over and taking Jayden from my arms. "I've got a bike for you."

"Bike!" Jayden cries happily.

Kendric looks down at me, giving me a smile that makes my legs weak.

God dammit.

I'm going to fall in love with this man. I just know it.

"So the cops didn't believe you, no shock there," Alarick mutters, taking a sip of his beer.

Briella snuggles into his side.

"No, they didn't. It doesn't matter, anyway. I don't have my job to worry about anymore. I'm done with it. I'm done being a joke. I'm going to find them on my own."

Alarick nods, and his eyes move to Samson, who is sitting on a chair, beer in his hand, staring at the fire blankly. "The sooner, the better."

"Yeah," I say softly, feeling my heart break for him.

I don't know what Alarick plans on doing with Samson. I know they don't leave him unguarded, and he has to stay at the club at all times. I think, deep down, they have to know he didn't betray them on purpose. Still, he did let them down, and clubs like these, have rules. When they find his daughter, I have no idea what they'll do to him.

I don't even want to think about it.

I didn't even bother to ask what they did with the two men they took from the island.

"We've got fuckin' nothing," Cohen growls, and I glance at him. "We're back to square fuckin' one."

"We'll find something," I say, but do I believe it? No.

"I'll help where I can," Merleigh adds from her place beside Bohdi.

I don't know what's going on between them, but they spend a lot of time together. They're good together, the two of them would be a perfect match. Though, whatever life Bohdi came from, it's not a good one. You can see the darkness in his eyes. He's so quiet, so broody.

But, to be fair, Merleigh hasn't had a good life, either.

Maybe they'd be perfect for each other.

Just maybe.

"Nothin' you can do," Samson murmurs from his spot. "Nobody is findin' him."

Briella looks to him, her face sad. "We'll find your daughter, Kendric."

He grunts.

He doesn't say another word.

"Have you spoken to Waverly?" Briella asks me.

"Yeah, she doesn't know anything," I answer. "I want to keep it that way. She has done enough for all of this."

Alarick nods in agreeance. "Yeah, she fuckin' has. We're goin' to fix this on our own."

"We're runnin' out of time," Kendric says, returning with Jayden. "I've got less than a month before trial."

"We'll get this fixed," Alarick goes on, his voice tight.

"We've got nothin', boss," Cohen growls. "Absolutely fuckin' nothing."

"Wrong."

A voice comes from the darkness, and we all spin around to see a gorgeous girl walking towards us. She's the most badass, dangerous-looking girl I've ever seen in my life. She is tiny, but that doesn't take away from the confidence she holds. She's got this thick, long black hair and the lightest blue eyes of any woman I've ever seen. She's wearing black jeans, a pair of converse and a tight tank. She has tattoos climbing up her arms.
