“It’s vintage, Mom. Do you even know what that means?” Jesse explained, coveting the dress based on its age as well as its special significance.

“Vintage. Is that what we are now?” I ask May, leaning down to ask her as we watch all the other kids getting their diplomas and applauding.

“Speak for yourself,” she whispers back, making me jump when she squeezes my crotch through my suit pants.

“They don’t make ‘em like that anymore,” she murmurs, shooting me a little wink.

“Oh! Jesse’s next, Jesse’s next!” she whispers suddenly, telling us all to have our phones ready to take her picture.

Little Jesse looks amazing, with some of my height on her and her mom’s stunning figure, she’s a proud and confident young lady.

And as much as I was inclined to agree with Max on the whole grade school graduation opinion, well…maybe one day. Hopefully, one day, he’ll feel as proud and blessed as I do today.

I’m watching my daughter hold her head high and take her diploma, posing for some photos before joining the rest of her classmates.

Choking up a little, I feel May pressing her handkerchief into my palm, crimping her own mouth as she swells with pride.

But giving her husband the dignity of having his own moment, I dab at my eyes before sniffing back what surely must be allergies.

“I’m spotting some older boys over there,” I mention to May, jutting my chin toward some of the other kids from her school.

“So?” May murmurs back, craning her neck to make sure Jesse can see us in the crowd and giving her a little wave.

“That dress,” I mutter to myself, and May asks me in a serious, almost annoyed tone what the hell I’m talking about.

“I’m just saying…. Graduation…. Older boys…. That dress…?”

It takes a second for May to catch on, but when she looks up at me, I raise my eyebrows up and down with a knowing look on my face.

“Hey! I know the power of that dress,” I explain, but she’s not buying it.

“I think its magic kinda only rubbed off on us, honey,” my wife informs me.

“It really did, didn’t it?” I ask her seriously, taking her hand in mine and pressing it to my lips.

“You gave me three beautiful kids, sweetheart. And I’m as proud of you as I am of Jesse today,” I tell her with all my heart.

“Four,” May says under her breath, shifting herself again to wave at Jesse again.

“Wha-What?” I stutter, but May turns to me again, her lower lip trembling with emotion.

Proud of our daughter, but choosing the moment to let me know that after all these years, she’s pregnant again with our fourth.

“Four, Brandon,” she says again, taking my hand and holding it over her belly.

“A baby! Again?” I exclaim, kissing her hard as everyone around us stands up.

“You’ve made me the happiest man alive,” I whisper in her ear, and standing up, we join the other parents, cheering and clapping for their kids.

With our applause feeling the loudest until my hand’s firmly in hers again, I lean over to May so she can hear me properly.

“I love you, May…I’ll always love you.”

“I love you too, Brandon. I love you, too.”
