Moving forward onto my knees, I crawl towards him, looking up at him through my lashes. “I’m sorry,” I whisper, stopping in front of him and pushing up so I’m on my knees, his bare cock in my face. “I believe in you. Forgive me?”

His eyes flash as he looks down at me. Reaching down, he takes my chin in his hand, running his thumb over my flesh. Sliding, his hand moves to my hair and runs through it. Shivers run down my spine and my heart skips a beat at the way he’s looking at me.

“I can think of one thing...”

His cock jumps and a smile spreads across my lips.

I can think of one thing, too.

Oh yes indeed.

THEN

“You can take the rest; all I want is $250,000.”

Staring desperately, I look at the man standing in front of me. He’s a prospect and only new to the club, but I can tell he hates it. He hates everything about it, but he has nowhere else to go. His life, from what I’ve heard, is far from great and this allows him to have some type of family. They’re known to treat prospects badly, and this particular one really doesn’t take well to it.

“You want me to steal from a club that would kill me at the drop of a fuckin’ hat?”

“Yes,” I say, heart racing. “But with the rest of the money, you can leave and disappear. You can have whatever life you want. You don’t have to be here anymore.”

I know he’s considering it, because there is a flash in his eyes that tells me the idea of leaving with that amount of money is enough to make him happy for the rest of his days. Better yet, he doesn’t have to do anything for anyone ever again.

“Just imagine how it’ll feel to set yourself up and never look back. Never be told what to do by these guys again. It’s a pretty good feeling.”

I hate the way I sound. I hate everything about it.

But I’m out of options.

Bruce, the prospect, purses his lips. I can’t deny that I feel utterly horrible for what I’m doing to him. I know he’s not quite right and that he’s easily manipulated. I don’t know why Colt even took him on, I guess he felt sorry for him. Colt has a soft spot for the poor, broken young men that have no one. Bruce isn’t someone I’d ever trust, but I’m not running a club.

“If I get caught...”

“I’ll take the blame,” I throw in there. “Colt would never hurt me. I’ll tell him I forced you.”

This seems to pique his interest.

I know better than anyone it wouldn’t matter if I told Colt it was my idea, if he found Bruce taking money from the club, he’d kill him without questions.

“I’m leading a big deal tomorrow night,” Bruce tells me. “It’s my first big one. I’ve proved my worth with the smaller ones and now they’re sending me on the dangerous tasks. Better my life than theirs. If I leave with the money, all I have to do is meet you somewhere and disappear. It shouldn’t be hard.”

My heart races.

“Will someone be going with you?”

Bruce shakes his head. “No. There will be someone waiting outside of the drop point, but I just won’t return.”

“You need a plan, Bruce. You’ll need to be out of town quickly...”

“Don’t worry about me, I know people. I’ll disappear without a trace. I’ve done it before. You just worry about being there on time, ready. If you’re not, I’m leaving with the lot.”

“I’ll be there.”

“I’ll be in touch.”

Turning, Bruce leaves.

I watch him go and exhale the breath it feels as though I have been holding for hours.

I shouldn’t be doing this, but I’ve run out of other options. The person threatening me has made it clear that they’ll go to the police soon if I don’t hand the money over. I haven’t slept in weeks; I haven’t been there for Colt while he’s grieving his sister. I’ve been the worst kind of person and I don’t deserve the love being thrown my way.

The moment this money is handed over.

I’m leaving town.

I can’t do this to him. He deserves better than me.

Even if it kills me, it’s the least I can do.

For Jeannie.

“BABY,” COLT MURMURS, running a hand through my hair, “I hate seein’ you like this.”

My heart is breaking into a thousand pieces when he talks to me like this.

It kills me because I know that it’s going to ruin him when I leave. He’ll never forgive me, but that’s exactly what I need him to do. He can’t come looking for me. He deserves to move on with his life and find a woman who can give him the life he deserves. He can never know what I’ve done. Maybe one day, when my time is up, I’ll find a way to tell him but until then, I simply can’t.
