“We’re barely together,” I croaked.
He shook his head. “None of that matters to me, Lindsey. I knew from the moment I laid eyes on you in that bar that you were something special. And I knew I wanted to make you mine, consequences be damned.” He swallowed thickly. “I love you, Lindsey.” The heart rate monitor began beeping rapidly, mimicking the rate of my heart. More tears flooded my eyes, but this time, these were happy tears instead of panicked ones. “I love you so goddamn much that when I saw your car on the side of the road, everything else ceased to exist. I could’ve gotten Carter and Carver killed because all I could see was you. Having you collapse in my arms felt like my fucking world was ending.”
Tears glimmered in his eyes when I looked up at him. “You mean that?” I croaked.
He nodded. “I don’t say shit I don’t mean, darlin’,” he rasped. “You know that.”
I hiccupped, pain slicing through my body as I did so. Blink soothed me through the pain.
“My life has always been shit,” I began. “I was tossed from foster home to foster home. Never got adopted. I cling to anyone who wants to give me love, affection, or even stability. I was afraid I was seeing more with you than you were really giving.”
Blink shook his head and pressed his lips to my forehead. When he pulled back, our eyes met. “Lindsey, I’ll give you anything. Fucking everything, you hear me?”
My lips trembled, and a tear snaked down my cheek to land on the pillow. “I love you.” I sniffled and curled my fingers into his cut. “I love you so goddamn much, it should scare me, Blink.”
A small smile tilted his lips. “As long as I’m alive, I’ll do my best to make sure you never fear anything,” he assured me. He smoothed his lips over mine again. “I will love you and our child for eternity, Lindsey. And I fucking mean that.”
I closed my eyes, yawning. My mind was now as exhausted as my body. “Will you stay with me?” I asked, my other hand curling into his shirt.
He folded me into his arms, situating us better on the bed, being extra careful of my injuries. “I’ll stay as long as you want me to,” he promised.
