So fucking painful.
Rome’s hand snaked across the leather seat and grabbed mine. Her soft fingers interlocked between my digits, and she brushed her thumb over my hard knuckles.
I eyed our adjoined hands, losing my train of thought.
“Calloway.”
I looked into her beautiful eyes and knew exactly what she was going to say next.
“Let’s go to your place.”
I’d just told myself it wasn’t a good idea, but I didn’t have the strength to say no to her now. My heart would be broken all over again, but I would worry about that later. For now, I just wanted to enjoy her one last time, to tell her I loved her while I made love to her.
I hit the button on the ceiling. “Tom, change of plans. Let’s go to my place.”
“Yes, sir.”
I undid my safety belt and scooted across the seat until we were pushed together against the other door. I wrapped my arm around her shoulder and pulled her close to me, smelling her perfume and recognizing it from my sheets. Just a hint of the smell remained, but it wouldn’t last much longer. Now she could freshen it up and extend it.
My hand slid up her thigh and under her dress, feeling the smooth skin of her perfect legs. I couldn’t wait to feel them wrapped around my waist, her ankles locked together as I thrust into that warm pussy I adored.
She pressed a sexy kiss to my neck then my ear, her breathing deep and aroused.
Now I wasn’t sure if I could wait until we got to my house.
“Calloway?”
“Yes, sweetheart?” I pressed a kiss to her hairline, loving the feeling of her hair against my lips.
“Have you…still been seeing Isabella?”
Isabella was the last thing I wanted to talk about right now. She was nowhere on my mind. “No.”
She couldn’t hide the relief that swept across her face. “Have you been with anyone else? Have you…dominated anyone else?” Her voice shook slightly, like she didn’t want to hear my answer.
Just the night before, I’d had my fun with two women. It would be easy for me to lie since I was so close to getting laid. But I couldn’t lie to Rome about something that could change her feelings. “Yes.”
“Oh…” Her body suddenly went cold.
“I didn’t touch them.”
“Them?” Her voice picked up in alarm.
“I met these two women at Ruin last night. They wanted me to be their Dom, so I made them do things to each other. But I didn’t touch them.” When I told one woman to slap the other, she did it. When I asked one to whip the other, she didn’t hesitate. It fulfilled my urges perfectly. Rome and I weren’t together so I was free to do whatever I wanted, but I still felt terrible for hurting her.
“Oh…”
“I didn’t touch them,” I reminded her for the third time. “I haven’t been with a woman besides you.” My need to dominate wasn’t necessarily sexual all the time. What I did with Isabella was strictly to control my anger and need for domination. Fucking her never crossed my mind. But I didn’t expect Rome to understand that.
She pulled her hand from mine, pushing away my affection. She swallowed hard, loud enough for me to hear. With every passing second, she drew away from me. She closed off her heart, her body, and everything else.
I knew I wasn’t getting laid tonight.
She hit the button on the ceiling. “Tom, take me home.” She looked out the window so she wouldn’t have to look at me.
“Yes, ma’am,” Tom said through the intercom.
I stared at the side of her face, both angry and indifferent. “Rome, I don’t want to do these things with other women. I only want to do them with you.”
She kept her gaze focused through the glass like I wasn’t even there. “While I sleep alone in my bed, heartbroken, you’re out having a good time.”
“I’m out having a terrible time because I wish I were with you.”
She pressed her lips tightly together and shook her head.
“You really can’t even consider doing this for me?” I asked incredulously. “You’re willing to let me go and end up with somebody else because you’re that closed-minded?”
She turned back to me, fire in her gaze. “Excuse me? Calloway, you have no idea what I’ve been through.”
“Exactly,” I barked. “Because I know you changed your name and you’re running from something, but you never had the balls to tell me.”
Shock crept into her features.
“At least I was man enough to be honest with you. Yes, I’m into some kinky shit. But that’s who I am. You keep comparing me to these abusive men from your past, when I’m nothing like that. You don’t trust me.”
“Fuck you, Calloway.” She turned back to the window. “You had one of your men look into my file?”
