“I was away at school until a few days ago. Sanchez came to get me.” She shivered like she got a cold chill.

“I refused to leave with him, he always gave me the creeps. I took a plane in by myself. Then tonight I heard them talking outside my window. They didn’t know I could hear them. That’s when I ran.” She rubbed her arms and looked miserable.

“Who did you hear?”

“Sanchez and this other guy. They were talking about me. The other guy had a very strong accent. He was telling Sanchez that he had to hurry up and marry me so he could keep control of the crew and dad’s business. I didn’t know if that was dad’s wish, but something didn’t feel right about it so…”

“This other guy, you know who he is?” My mind was already working. Because of what I’d just read I had a pretty good idea who it could be. If that were true then she was in deeper shit than she was from Sanchez and his stupid ass.

“No, I never heard his voice before.”

“And you’re not interested in marrying Sanchez, I gather.”

She gave me a look that would curdle the fuck outta milk. “Don’t be an ass.” Fucking girl, why didn’t she just annoy Sanchez’s ass to death with her damn mouth?

“You know, for someone who needs my help you sure have a lot of fucking lip. Let’s get one thing straight, letter or no letter I don’t owe your fuck of a sperm donor shit. I’m under no obligation to put my life on the line to save your ass. So watch your tone with me, I’m not your dad.” Thank fuck.

For once she didn’t have a snippy comeback and I was starting to feel like a heel. The kid just buried her dad and had to run to her enemy for shelter. That can’t be easy. But then she got off the couch in a huff and headed for the door.

She went left I went right, into my kitchen to finish the damn sandwich I was eating when she ran her ass in my house. She wants to leave, who am I to stop her? Did I feel guilty for letting her walk out and most likely into imminent danger? Fuck no.

“Fuck!” I’d only taken one bite when she came storming back into the room.

“You were really going to let me leave?” I didn’t even look up from my sandwich.

“You’re of age.” Her old man really didn’t know what the fuck he was doing when he left her care up to me.

“You really are a bastard.”

“That’s what ma said.” Of course she never got around to marrying my dad because this one’s asshole dad had ended his life too soon.

She threw her ass into a chair and made her face up like a storm cloud. “You hungry?” I pushed the other half of my sandwich over to her. She looked at it like it was cat shit and her nose went up in the air. The fuck she think this is, The Ritz?

“Too good for turkey and Swiss huh.” She rolled her damn eyes and went back to pouting. I couldn’t even begin to imagine what I was supposed to do with her ass. The only time I’m around a female other than ma is when I wanna fuck. That don’t usually involve a whole lotta talking.

She sat there for another minute or so before she realized that I wasn’t about to play her game. I’ve heard the stories, I’m pretty sure she was accustomed to having shit her way. Her dad had been the head of one of the oldest MCs in the country, and as such, she has been treated like the pampered princess she is.

She expects everyone to bow to her wishes because her whole life she’s had grown men at her beck and call for everything from security to getting her damn tampons at the Dollar General. She’s fuck outta luck with me with that shit.

From what I’ve heard over the years Clyde had kept her close so it was a surprise when he let her go away to school. Now I guess I know why. If he suspected mutiny in his ranks she would be the first thing he got out of the line of fire.

It was also rumored that she thought her daddy was a businessman. I don’t know what the fuck hole she’d been living in that she believed that shit.

Apparently he had shielded her from the shadier side of his business dealings, but I was sure she knew who and what he was. She had too much damn lip to be that fucking stupid.

“What did the letter say?”

“Oh so you’re talking to me now? It doesn’t matter what it says if he wanted you to know he would’ve told you.” I ignored her huffy ass and ate my sandwich before washing it down with warm fucking soda.
