“I broke up with him. And something else happened last night,” Michelle said.

Spinning on her heels, Skylar plugged her ears and started chanting, “La-la-la-la…I can’t hear you.”

Lifting her left hand, Michelle shouted, “Skylar!”

Skylar faced us.

I was once again overcome with emotion when I thought about how Michelle had forgiven me, said yes to my proposal, and then taken me to heaven and back multiple times last night. We had yet to talk about her being at Baylor and me at UT though.

With a loud scream, Skylar rushed over and grabbed Michelle’s hand. “Holy crap! Is that…are you…holy crap!” Glancing up at me, Skylar grinned from ear to ear. “Did you pick this out?”

I nodded. “Yep.”

Turning her attention back to the ring, Skylar gasped, “It is stunning!”

“He did good, didn’t he?” Michelle stated while giving me a sexy wink.

I was ready for my sister to leave now. “Well, now, you know where I am, and you can let Mom and Dad know.”

Skylar completely ignored me. “I still can’t believe my brother picked out such a gorgeous ring.”

Michelle giggled.

I mouthed, Make her leave, as Skylar continued to go on about the ring and how hard it was for her to believe I’d picked it out all on my own.

Then, Skylar let out a scream. “We have to tell Mom and Dad! Now!”

“What?” Michelle and I both said at once.

Before I even knew what was happening, Skylar was turning off the stove while she was on her phone before dragging Michelle toward the stairs. “Mom! I found Mitch, and we’re heading back home.”

“No, we’re not,” I said as I followed them up the stairs.

“Yes! He’s at Michelle’s, just like Wyatt thought.”

I made a note to kick Wyatt’s ass.

Taking Michelle’s other arm, I pulled them to a stop. “We have plans today, Sky.”

With a look that should have knocked me flat on my ass, Skylar kept talking, “No, Mom, Mitch was just saying they had plans to stop by to tell everyone they were back together.”

My mother’s scream came across the phone, loud and clear. Michelle’s cheeks turned a beautiful shade of pink, and all I wanted to do was take her in my arms and kiss her.

“I know! Give us fifteen minutes.”

“No!” I shouted.

Skylar dismissed me with a wave of her hand. “See ya in a few, Mom.” Hitting her phone, she pulled on Michelle again. “Let’s get you dressed in something cute because I know photos will be taken. Oh my gosh! When are y’all getting married? We could have a double wedding! We could even go on our honeymoons together.”

Michelle let out a roar of laughter. “Oh, I’m sure Wyatt would really love that idea.”

I stopped and let them keep walking. Clearly, I wasn’t going to win this battle. My sister had a plan in her head, and when that happened, no force of nature could stop her.

The bedroom door shut as I stood in the hall, staring at where my sister and fiancée had disappeared.

Fiancée. I like the sound of that. A lot.

Closing my eyes, I pictured Michelle walking toward me in a beautiful white gown with a bright and beautiful smile, her blue eyes competing with the sky.

The sound of the door opening pulled me from my daydream. My T-shirt came flying at me before I heard the sound of the door shutting again. The only thing I could do was laugh.

I walked up to the door and shouted, “I’ll be downstairs, dreaming of what would have happened had you just left, Sky!”

“Gross!” Skylar yelled back.

As I headed down the stairs, I couldn’t help but reach over and pinch myself like a total fucking sissy. I hadn’t felt this happy in a long time, and I had to make sure it wasn’t a dream.

CHAPTER FIFTY-TWO

* * *

Wyatt

“WYATT? YOUR CELL phone has rung a few times!” my mother called out.

I peeked my head around the hood of my father’s truck. “Okay, we’re about done!” I called back. “I’ll be right back, Dad.”

Taking the steps up my front porch two at a time, I headed into the house.

My mother was standing there, holding out my phone for me. “Skylar has called a couple of times, and so has Michelle.”

My chest tightened when I hit Skylar’s number.

“Hey! I’ve been trying to call you.”

“Is everything okay?” I quickly asked.

“Yeah. Sorry, I didn’t mean to worry you by calling so many times. I was about to call your mom. Everything is okay. Well, Michelle has a bit of a problem, and Mitch had to leave to go back to Austin earlier today. He had a football meeting.”

Breathing a sigh of relief, I gave my mom a thumbs-up to let her know all was okay. “Okay, what’s her problem?”

“Something is leaking, and she has water dripping from her attic. She can’t leave to head back to Waco if she has a leak. Her mom isn’t set to be back home for another three weeks.”
