“What kind of reward?” He was acting sweet and innocent, but as he shifted our hands so he was caressing mine, it felt anything but naïve. “I want to make you happy, Sir.”

There were so many ways I could’ve taken that statement that I knew it’d been deliberately worded. But two could play that game. “I’m sure I can think of a lot of ways you could make me very happy, boy.”

Starting with his mouth…but that would be for later.

“Right now the best way to make me happy would be to let me get to know you more.” When his reaction was to slump over and pout, I laughed. “You’re not arguing about that, are you? This is our third date after all.”

He sat up, barely pushing back the pout. “No, Sir. I like talking to you.”

That was true enough, but he was vibrating with need. I knew I could only hold it back so long, but fucking with him would be a fun way to pass the time while we talked.

Lifting my foot, I stretched out my leg and rested it right between his legs. Gently tapping against his erection, I smiled politely as his entire body seemed to jolt. “That’s what I thought, but don’t forget I’m looking forward to the end of our date as well.”

I gave him one more tap for good measure before returning my foot to the floor. It took him several long moments before he could take a deep breath and clear his head.

I wasn’t sure what exactly hit a button, but something about it had scrambled his brain because his tone was sexy and breathy as he fought to figure out how to respond. “I…what other projects are you working on?”

It was definitely a how is the weather kind of question, but it was in the spirit of getting to know each other better, so I smiled approvingly. “Thank you for asking, and I appreciate you following the rules like a good boy.”

His whimper was delightful, but my favorite part was the way he licked his lips and straightened, fighting to stay on track. “Thank you, Sir. I…I like talking to you.”

Giving his hand a squeeze, I found myself fighting off the urge to wrap my arms around him. Having the table between us was a good idea but not a fun one. “I like talking to you, and I had a good time with you at lunch the other day.”

Something about it had his cheeks getting pink, but he didn’t avoid the topic. “It wasn’t how I thought my day would go, but I’m glad we talked.”

Stroking over the palm of his hand, I tried to tread carefully through the conversation. “I’m glad I got to see that side of you.”

“It’s…” He paused, looking down at our hands as his voice trailed off softly. “It’s not…distracting for you that my submissive sides are very different?”

I had a feeling his first choice of words had been a lot more negative than just distracting. “No, being complex makes you more interesting, not off-putting or frustrating.”

A grin flashed over his face as his gaze met mine. “I like that word…complex.”

“So do I.” Lacing his fingers through mine, I gave him what I hoped was a tender smile. “Now, tell me about the complex man who I’m finding so fascinating.”

He shook his head, sighing. “You’re always going to manage to get your way, aren’t you?”

Flashing him a devilish grin, I shrugged. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

He scoffed but gave in quickly, so I knew he didn’t mind. “I have an email from a certain local politician asking me to put in a bid on his reelection party.”

Laughing, I shook my head. “I’m not sure any amount of money is worth actually getting that job.”

Besides, I’d gotten a phone call from a rival candidate and it sounded like they’d done much better polling. I might not be able to give Hunter the details, but at the very least it wouldn’t be long before I could tell him if bidding on the job would be worth it or not.

Grinning, Hunter shook his head. “Thankfully, I could honestly say I was busy that day and turn down the job. But I’m pretty sure he’s going to have a hard time finding anyone local who wants his business.”

“I have a feeling that’s not going to teach him anything.” Some people didn’t learn.

Hunter chuckled. “He doesn’t have our good communication skills or my incredible patience.”

I might’ve snorted at that bullshit, but his twinkling eyes said he wasn’t offended. “Yes, your patience and great communication skills are the first things I think of when I look at all your many wonderful qualities.”

Shrugging as he giggled, I gestured between the two of us and winked. “They describe us both so well.”
