“Green for money!” I giggled as Kristin laughed.

“I just need to wrap it around this. Every three rotations, we have to say, ‘Money flowing free, prosperity there shall be.’ And we have to think of Lucas as we say it. Ready?”

“Ready!”

As I turned the ribbon-wrapped packet, Kristin and I said the chant. I reached for the dragon’s blood smudge stick and waved it in the air.

“What’s with the smudge stick?” Kristin asked.

“Dragon’s blood adds potency to the spells.”

She nodded. “Good to know.”

“Okay. We just need to let the candle burn down.”

Kristin stood. “This calls for more wine.”

“How about a whiskey shot?” I asked.

Glancing over her shoulder, she flashed me a wicked grin. “I like where your head is.”

After two shots and two glasses of wine, I decided to test the waters.

“Kristin, I want to… No, I want you to put a spell on Shawn.”

She looked over at me. “One where his dick falls off? If that’s the kind of spell you’re talking about, then I’m all for it.”

I rolled my eyes. “Why do you hate him so much?”

Placing her wine on the table, Kristin leaned forward, causing me to do the same as I waited for her to finally tell me what her beef was with Shawn.

“We slept together a few years back, and he left in the middle of the night. No goodbye, no nothing. Just left.”

My mouth fell open. “You slept with Shawn?”

“No, I had an evening of the best sex of my life with a man I haven’t been able to stop thinking about or comparing every guy I’m with to. He’s ruined my sex life forever!”

My hand came up to my mouth, and I fought to hold back a laugh. “Wow. It was that good, huh?”

She closed her eyes. “The man can do things with his tongue…”

“Ewww! Gross! I don’t want to hear that.”

With a half-shoulder shrug, she winked at me.

“Okay, hear me out.”

Kristin reached for her wine glass, nearly knocking it over, so I knew she was a bit tipsy but not drunk. Yet.

“Why do I feel like I’m not going to want to hear you out?”

“The spell that we thought we were doing on Lucas, the notice me spell…? Well, I’ve got the right spell now.”

Okay, so I wasn’t exactly telling her it was a charm spell. She’d forgive me.

“So?”

“So!” I said as I attempted to act excited. “Let’s use it on Shawn!”

She stared at me for a few minutes before she busted out laughing.

“What’s so funny?” I asked as I folded my arms over my chest.

“The difference is, you wanted Lucas to notice you. I could care less if Shawn knows I’m in the same room with him or not.”

Tilting my head, I gave her a look that said, Really?

“Kristin, I’m your best friend. You don’t think I’ve noticed the way you look at him when you think no one is watching. And the way he looks at you! He wants you.”

She looked up from the wine glass that was pressed to her lips. “You think so?”

Oh, my gosh. I’m pulling her in! Internal fist bump for me!

“I don’t think so, I know so!”

She put her wine glass down. “You think he…wants me?”

“For sure. It’s written all over his face. And I get this weird feeling when you two are together. And who knows what that means? I don’t fully understand all these witch powers yet, but I’m thinking it’s a force between you two. You said the sex was good.”

“It was more than good,” she said, dropping back and pulling her legs up under her. “It was hot. It was passionate. It was…sweet.”

“Then let’s do this!” I ran to the kitchen and grabbed the white sage and lavender smudge. “Look! I bought this at Lucy’s today. White sage and lavender are thought to spark passion. They’re an aphrodisiac and also happen to promote a deep relaxation.”

“Wait, do you think we should use that? I mean, I just want him to notice me…. No, I want him to notice me and realize what he lost!”

I chewed on my lip. That wasn’t exactly where I wanted her to go with her thoughts. “You don’t want him again?”

“Sex-wise? Hell, I’d take another go in the sheets with him. Show him what he’s missed out on.”

Studying her face, I knew she was lying. She wanted more than sex.

“Then are you down for doing the spell?”

She drew in a deep breath, held it, then exhaled. “Why the fuck not! I’m halfway to drunk, so what the hell?”

Jumping up, I clapped my hands. “I’ll get it all set up! Here, have another shot and more wine!”

After gathering everything up, I made my way back into the living room. For a moment, I paused as I thought about the night we cast a spell on Lucas. A moment of panic hit me, but I brushed it away.
